August 1 marks the 30th Anniversary of MTV. MTV revolutionized the way we looked at music and the VJs were a big part of shaping that vision. We want to know what it meant to you. Do you have fond memories of watching MTV or your favorite VJ?

We’ll collect your stories through the month of August and post them here on the site as we get them.

We will be accepting form entries starting Saturday, July 30th, 2011.

I ran.

I ran so far away.

I ran all night and day.

Couldn’t get away.

[from Flock Of Seagulls but boy, did I ever try]...LOL

I had *just* turned 20 when it came on air.
They’re celebrating 30 years.

I AM old.

The first video I remember watching was INXS’ The One Thing. That came out on 1983. I was babysitting, and I was glued to the set after the kids went to bed! After we got MTV at home, we would play that in the background instead of the radio. The “good old days”. ;)

I wanna be stuffin’ Martha’s muffin.

I wanna be in Martha Quinn.

(Don’t remember the name of the song or the band, but that line was memorable)

I scared my dogs that night, standing up and cheering.

[put in a *lotta* years and a lotta griping to see that happen]

I mean, c’mon...ABBA gets in before Alice?

Blasphemy!

I have indoctrinated my kids, and they love anything from the 80s. Best decade ever.

I stopped watching after the original ones left, but yes, Daisy was a looker.

Here are my two MTV memories:

First I lived in Brooklyn, the last place in NYC to be wired for cable, I mean it was 1985 and we didn’t have our MTV!

Second-I always thought MTV was better on the pro-life issue than any of the major MSMers, and on all politics, in fact. MTV would find young, good looking conservatives and put them on the air. The rest of the MSM would cut their throats before they’d do that.

My brother (very handsome!) was interviewed by MTV as we protested the dem convention when it was in NYC in 1992, when Clinton was nominated. One of his friends saw him on TV and my brother called MTV to find out if there was any way to get a copy of the show. And, amazingly, they messengered him a free copy.

So, MTV’s always been kind of OK by me.

There’s a local bar band called “The Reagan Years”.

All 80s music.

Love ‘em.

I think the main memory that everyone has from the 80s is that MTV used to actually show music videos instead of everything else they now show instead.

Wow, did it really? we LOVED that show ( we even had, and played, the board game!), but I don’t remember him. I’ll have to ask the kid if she remembers.

He played characters like, “The Stud Boy.”

Kari Wuhrer was also hot as hell on that show.
