Is this something Tea Party should take as a cause?
Usually Republican party is for Free Trade, but its time we keep our jobs right here in this great country of ours. Can Tea Party change the conversation on trade issues?
If it does it will kiss off Republicans that have a clue about economics.

What is your definition of “fair trade?”
Fair trade is not on the Tea Party agenda and I don’t think it should be.
The Tea Party is for free markets, which in a way calls for free trade.
Be suspicious whenever The Government wants to interfere in free markets, especially if they start using words like “fair.”
Only true conservatives fight against “free” trade. The Oligarchal Communists want a one world order so want “free” trade, and the Oligarchal Corporatists want all power and no accountability, and therefore want “free” trade.

I’m with you, there is NOTHING that thrills the unions more than having a CAPTIVE MARKET for their labor.
So I’ll make you (or them, really) a deal. Outlaw private-sector unions, and then we’ll look at “fair trade”.

So how much of an additional tax do you wish to place upon me to make things “fair?” I’m looking for the “true conservative” perspective.
How about truly free trade instead of ‘fair’ or the Orwellian definition of ‘free’ trade we have now?

If you want to warm the hearts of the likes of Bernie Sanders and Richard Trumka, then yes.
"Fair trade" is almost always code for protectionist policies that allow overpaid unionized workers to keep their jobs without actually competing.
Sorry, but many manufacturing jobs simply don't warrant high salaries and gold plated health care and pension plans. The sad truth is many manufacturing positions are low skilled jobs that require little to no education and are doomed to be farmed off as cheap overseas labor. Trying to stop that from happening is just delaying the inevitable and guaranteeing bloated, inefficient unionized companies continue to exist long after their sell date.
A) A tariff on goods is one of the few constitutional taxes possible.
B) I didn’t say anything about a fair tax. I said “Free” trade which is NOT free, was not conservative.
C) Conservatives put their country first, not corporate interests. Once upon a time corporations were able to come together for a specific time period, for a specific reason that put the best interests of a society ahead, and thus were granted priviledges that individuals are not, and therefore for a time period the rules of accountability were bent. That is no longer the case.
But you go on thinking you can put words in my mouth, and, as always, stay classy.
So, who gets to determine the ‘best interests of society’? Legislators in DC? They sure do a bang up job don’t they?
Not just the TEA Party, every working stiff is gonna have a choice of a lowering of wages/standard of living or popular isolationism/protectionism. We’ve seen the video of teachers demanding higher taxes. Americans of all flavors from the elite down are going to be upset with the new order...unless we can compete. We cant. We won’t.
It’s called tarriffs. I notice that no one has mentioned the word.
If you set tarriffs too high, then you elminate competition and prices will rise. If you set them too low, then other countries move in and all our factories close down.
At the moment, tarriffs are too low. We don’t want high tarriffs, but we do need some tarriffs.
As for free trade, if you look into the details you will find that almost all other countries have ways of keeping out American good, or of taxing them. The only “free” trade is goods coming into America and shutting down our manufacturing.
Europe has value added tax. We have corporate tax. As a result, American goods are heavily taxed in Europe, but European goods are not taxed in America because they pay no corporate tax, unlike American companies. So, the American companies are encouraged to move abroad.
And the international body that regulates trade is heavily biased against America, much like the UN.
Fair trade and reasonable tarriffs is what we need.

So what happens when Barney Frank heads the Congressional Committee that with Nancy Pelosi and Sheila Jackson Lee, gets to decide what “fair” means?
Believe. Believe that your legislators have your best interests in heart, and only they can fine-tune the proper level of tariffs so that we all have jobs.
