Sesame Street has a new muppet who is hungry for more than just cookies.

The iconic kids show is set to unveil a new impoverished puppet named Lily, whose family faces an ongoing struggle with hunger issues. Lily will be revealed in a one-hour Sesame Street primetime special, Growing Hope Against Hunger, which is being sponsored by Walmart. The special will star country singer Brad Paisley and his wife Kimberly Williams Paisley, as well as the Sesame Street Muppets.

“Food insecurity is a growing and difficult issue for adults to discuss, much less children,” said the Paisleys in a statement. “We are honored that Sesame Street, with its long history of tackling difficult issues with sensitivity, caring and warmth asked us to be a part of this important project.” The special will share the stories of real-life families to raise awareness of hunger issues in the United States, as well as strategies that have helped these families find food. The United States Department of Agriculture estimates that 17 million American children — nearly 1 in 4 — have limited or uncertain access to affordable and nutritious food. Walmart is sponsoring the show as part of a $1.5 million grant toward the initiative and holding screenings in select communities.

The special is set to air nationwide on Oct. 9.

Lily has an X-Box, iPod, smart-phone, and $200 sneakers. The female that gave birth to her has 4 more babies from different daddies.

When not disrupting class 2-3 times per week, they can be found hanging on Sesame street looking to “Hook-up” and follow in mom’s footsteps.

They all live rent-free and pay nothing for there 3,000 calorie/day diets of fats and carbs. The only “food insecurity” they may have is low self-esteem, obesity, and diabetes.

That’s why she is portrayed as a redhead of Scandanavian descent.

A few Saturdays ago, my wife babysat the 4 year old daughter of a friend of ours. I was out back taking down an old rotted cherry tree in the back yard, and our little guest was very upset with me, and told me “You shouldn’t cut down trees because they are habitat!”. She was upset enough that I took a break from my chainsaw until after she had gone home.

It was clear to me that I could not win, the little one was not going to listen to any explanation I had to offer about why it was sometimes necessary to cut down trees, or the useful things we do with them, or how this one was not going to waste because I was going to burn the good parts in the woodstove.

At four years of age she was already very well programmed to believe that cutting down any tree was bad, and that’s all she knew. I have no idea where she got that, but I can probably guess...

An image popped into my head of a prostrate Lily with Michelle Obama’s black boot on her neck.

RE: “You shouldn’t cut down trees because they are habitat!”.

Does the little 4 year old understand what the word — HABITAT means?

She’s got quite a vocabulary at that age.

BC you were too soft on her. It is your house and your tree. Had it been me I would have cut the thing down no matter how much she cried. Would have done her some good in the long run. She will get over it and more than likely will help her get over this enviromential wacko crap. You should have told your wife to take her in the house while you made firewood. Enough is enough. Don't cater to the morons. I don't.

Hungry kids are not much of a problem in this country. We didn't see too much obesity in young children that we do now.

The new muppet looks exactly HOW Michelle Obama says we should all look.

Maybe they are promoting food insecurity.

Of course they could have used this puppet and covered both food insecurity and terrorism:

I heard that they renamed “Cookie Monster” to “Trash Monster” or “Green Monster” or something, because they thought “Cookie Monster” might encourage kids to eat cookies ( < gasp! > the HORROR!!!). Anyone know if this is true?

The new American leisure class do not suffer from low self-esteem. They suffer from envy induced by excessive vanity. The unemployable need a huge dose of humility and lower self-esteem, and to learn how to say thank you to the American taxpayer. Happiness at any wealth level is a choice, a conscious choice to stop wallowing in envy.

"Hi, I'm Lily the hungry puppet. Hey kids, let's go to a Walmart Anywhere U.S.A. My my, look at all the people walking around with pillows on their stomachs. What, those are actually their real stomachs? What a lot of fat hogs!!! Where are the poor, starving wretches? They must be lining the streets by the millions asking for crusts of bread from passersby. Although we didn't see any on our way here. But I did see some bedraggled guy with a Will Work For Food Sign at an intersection. In the background was a fast food place looking for help. Does that make any sense?"

I've actually seen a guy with the "will work for food" sign standing at an intersection with a fast food restaurant in the background asking for help.

I guess the Swedish Chef won't be chopping wildly and sending morsels of food flying into the air any more. < rolls eyes >

(s) That is sexist because it is encouraging girls not to eat so they can meet the fashion model stereotypes. Perhaps they should have a bulimia muppet too?(/s)
