Who do you believe won tonights debate?
Honesty please
Cain I think will get the biggest benefit - further solidifying his position as front-runner.
Bachmann rates as most improved. She’s come a long way in terms of delivering her message, and her slower speaking cadence suits her better.
Perry/Romney were the arguing children in the back seat of a long car trip, with Romney frequently whining for parental intervention.
Newt...brilliant as always - and he seems there as the GOP director - keeping them all focused on the ball.
How would Obama handle it if Newt gave him a few “Yo’ mama ...”s or went after his no-good, deadbeat, philandering father?
Newt wins again tonight. Probably the most prepared to be POTUS.
Santorum, nice guy, but comes off like he is trying too hard.
Cain, he needs to brush up on other issues and show more than 999, he seemed down from the attacks tonight.
Bachmann, knows her facts and knowledgeable. Gets on the nerves a little with the Mom stuff. Female candidates seem to do this. Good on immigration though.
Perry, improved some tonight, but he just looks tired and acts slow.
Ron Paul, sometimes he surprises with where he will hit some issue right on...then he goes off the rails when you get to foreign policy. He seems to have no understanding of Islam whatsoever.
Romney, looked red eyed, got ruffled, slick, but lies.
I’m answering before reading a single post to the thread.
There is no doubt in my mind that Newt won the debate hands down.
I have a question for all...
Does Newt sound so good because he is neither attacking others or receiving attacks by the others in the debate?
Same for Bachmann?
I thought Romey and Romeycare was a great fighting point. Romey care has increased the cost in Mass. and has increased the amount of people going to the emergency room. It will cost the state 1.5 billion this year up a 150 million from last year. Its a disaster for Massachusetts. It has a pool which people can select plans from. Is this all sounding familiar?
I won. I had dinner with my daughter and skipped the debate.
Cain was on the defensive over his foolish Sim City tax plan and proved to be a embarrassing featherweight on foreign policy.
Before he ran out of mental gas again (unfortunately), Perry did a fine job smacking Mitt around and leaving him bruised and bloody.
Understood.
Thanks for your clarity.
He blathered on about cutting support to Israel to make them self sustaining. He sounded like a professional anti-semite. He was a total embarassment.
Romney and Perry didn’t do themselves any favors with their bickering. I was thoroughly expecting them to start sounding like PeeWee Herman.....”I know you are but what am I?”
Newt’s just very good at his profession.
Cooper LOST!
hehe... he lost control of the debate
But Perry was clearly the biggest loser tonight.
Isn’t that what these debates are about now???... who’s the loser??? Who’s gonna get hammered? Who is going to take a big drop in the polls so the voting momentum with shift to another candidate to justify more funding for polls???
In defense of Cooper, I would say that he did not come off as a big liberal trying to phrase questions to trick the candidates or guide the issues... but the format was clearly designed to set off fireworks between candidates, and in that respect he got a partial win.
I was relieved to see Newt take Cooper on in that respect in the end.
Santorum always manages to come across as a whiny sorehead. He reminds me of the smart first grader that no one likes.
However, Newt bombed when he debated Gore on global warming. I wish he could cure himself of sucking up to Democrats. As he has on occassion with Gore, the Clintons, and Pelosi.
He's not ready. As it has been said, the Presidency is not an entry level job. We should have learned that with Obama's election.
>>> Cain doesnt come across to me as all that substantive.
You should watch some of his speeches.
He knows his stuff... he just isn’t given much of a chance in debates to prove it.
For me Cain won then Bachmann did pretty good at various times. Her best debate performance. Then Newt came third on account of everyone else being lackluster. I see it like Palin saw it. Palin kept saying Bachmann did well on Fox News. I just think Bachmann has few detailed disagreements with Cain at the moment. So I doubt it would be a good ticket to pair them up unless they can agree. Bachmann is dead set against 9-9-9 which Cain dead set on passing. That is the situation. So right now I don’t think this debate changes much in the polls.
Cain and Newt - no doubt.
Cain and Newt - no doubt.
OK so no Cain. So looks like Bachmann is the best but isn’t polling worth squat - so looks like we are stuck with Perry?
Newt no longer lives in Georgia.
He lives in Great Falls VA or Potomac MD.
I value your opinion a lot, and based on most of the other comments on this thread, tend to think you are probably right on the money.
Thanks for posting, I'll try to catch a re-run.
I politely decline your assertion.
Cain’s ready enough for me.
Yep, Perry sure acted like an adult tonight...oh wait...
Newt
Who won the debate?
I’m a Herman Cain supporter but I have to say, as usual, Newt actually won the debate. I was a little disappointed in Herman’s performance in defending his 999 plan ... I could have explained it better than he did!
Newt (We are all so familiar with the guy we call him by his first name.)
Cain
Romney
Perry
Paul
Santorum
Bachmann
2/3 rds of the electorate is still busy doing other things right now. The political addicts and extremists are making all kinds of projections and assumptions and calling them fact, based on these low volume debates. But in the real world, the true picture will emerge and shock a lot of people here who believe that the rest of the world thinks like they do.
I can predict only one sure thing, which will be sometime in the middle of October next year, as well as who the nominee will be by July.
As far as who won the debates tonight or any of the previous nights? I would say that nobody won, since the agenda that will pick our next candidate for us, will have very little to do with who can BS better than all the others.
Newt - Kept his cool and answered questions succinctly.
Cain - Also kept his cool, answered most well, except for
his plan.
Bachman - did terrible, didn’t answer questions, shot herself in the foot with the women homeowners
Paul - is Paul. no change. hurt himself w/ cutting
defense.
Romney & Perry - were the same, terrible bickering with each
other. Romney is loosing his slickness.
Santorum - better, but not great. good on Latinos. Good on defense. Good job attacking Romney and Perry.
So, in order of best to worst:
1. Newt
2. Cain
3. Santorum
4. Romney
5. Perry
6. Bachmann
7. Paul
Whatta silly question.
Everyone’s favorite (prior to the debate) candidate won!
Point well taken!!!
Cooper made the Pubs react in bickering as Newt pointed out. People watching might not have liked that but: the audience still seemed to think Newt, Perry, Cain, Mitt, Michelle, Santorum and then Paul. It seems in each debate, the real innovator and genius is Newt. Period. Perhaps Perry made some steps tonight. Mitt did not do that great and Cain kept his own. Newt is just the most brilliant solutions person the Pubs have. If he can keep his message clear and get some dough, he could get some early delegates to forestall Mitt, Perry and Cain.
>>> Romney and Perry didnt do themselves any favors with their bickering. I was thoroughly expecting them to start sounding like PeeWee Herman.....I know you are but what am I?
Analyzing the debate from a purely Romney vs Perry perspective, Romney handed Perry’s ass to him in a used plastic bag after he ground it up like hamburger and deep fat fried it.
I was starting to wonder if Perry is not in this thing just to prop up Romney for the nomination.
Newt...agan
No to Newt.
He earned his negatives. He has a history of betraying his friends and allies.
Newt won, but I am starting to appreciate Santorum a lot.
Although I like Herman Cain he is stuck on 9-9-9 to the point I feel he’s becoming a pitch man and we’ll start to see his ads for it squeezed in between a “Sham-wow” and “Ginzu” commercial on late night TV. Herman is having to back way or clarify too many things he says and that is wearisome.
Perry was petty at times, but Mitt was the pits all the time.
Depends on definition of winning. If defined as “who did themselves the most good...”
1. Perry - Brought some game, fought with the front-runner, squeezed in all his talking points. This debate will keep the money spigot flowing.
2. Santorum - Made enough noise that somebody may begin to notice him.
3. Huntsman - Got a chance to work on his tan.
The winning comment tonight for me - was Cain telling the OWS they needed to go protest Obama.
NEWT, like always
Newt won. Bachman did a good job.
>>> Newt no longer lives in Georgia.
He lives in Great Falls VA or Potomac MD.
Are you saying that Newt can legally be the VP?
I really don’t know...
What are the residency requirements that nullify the constitutional limitations on POTUS/VP not being from the same state?
If you are right, and Newt can be VP, I would be pretty well convinced you will see him on the ticket with Cain.
You know, I didn’t give Santorum enough credit for his answer on “Why are you relevant?” I thought he did a really good job trying to make a case for himself. Considering his position in the polls, I thought he did a great job. He’s still not going to get the nomination.
Cain did well also and Perry and Bachmann were significantly improved over their past performances.
Ron Paul was his usual almost unhinged self, providing the comic relief.
Just my two cents.
I am still undecided who won....either the apples or the oranges...
Newt one this. IMO
Had a good night:
Santorum, Paul, and Newt
Had a mediocre night:
Michelle and Cain
Downright awful:
Mitt and Perry
“Who Won Tonights Debate?”
BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA...
The candidates were cutting EACH OTHER apart, instead of focusing on the main problem, Obama’s disastrous reign, and his America-hating minions.
Not ONE question asked, or comment about, Fast & Furious, Solyndra, the Indiana Forgery Scandal, yada, yada.
Exactly as the queens at CNN planned it....
