Sandusky is not the only one from Penn State that Ray Gricar declined to prosecute... (Vanity)

I was looking for some information on the Sandusky case and stumbled upon this tidbit, which may be irrelevant, but I thought it was interesting. According to this news story, Jerry Sandusky was not the only person affiliated with Penn State that DA Ray Gricar declined to prosecute for a sexual offense.

"As evidence that Gricar had the guts to not prosecute someone contrary to popular opinion, Buehner recalled the case of Scott Paxson, a star defensive tackle accused of raping a woman at his campus apartment in December 2004.

Gricar was criticized for not prosecuting that case. His successor, Michael Madeira, charged Paxson 15 months later with aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault but dropped the charges in the midst of Paxson's trial in September 2006. Paxson, who maintained his innocence, pleaded guilty to summary disorderly conduct — akin to a traffic ticket — and paid a $300 fine."

Now, it's probably the case that there was not enough evidence to make the charges stick, or Gricar thought it was a false accusation. Still, considering the recent theorizing about Gricar's refusal to file charges against Sandusky in 1998, I thought this information might be of interest.

Gricar isn’t around to answer these questimns. Maybe the folks whose names end in vowels have a lot of influence at Pedophile ST U

I don’t think so, but I am wondering if maybe there was some coercion exerted against him by somebody. The more I read about his disappearance, the more things point to the notion that he faked his death to disappear. If it was because someone was blackmailing him in 1998 though, it wouldn’t make much sense for him to wait 7 years to disappear. This case happened just months before he disappeared, so it’s tantalizing to wonder if maybe there was a blackmailer, who showed up again make demands on Gricar, and that was the last straw.

That’s what I’m thinking too. Of course, being a DA, it would be extraordinarily easy for him to get the vital records of someone that was deceased and create a new identity, so I doubt he is listed under his real name, wherever he may be.

I can’t find any information linking them, but I did find, coincidentally, there was a mafia caporegime in the Gambino/Gotti family named Joe Paterno!

Ray Gricar brother Roy also "suicided". Pittsburgh DA Robert Duggan; similar fate. The "guys" are very much all throughout PA; with the typical many connections inside government (classic). Big time mess; fixes, etc., at every turn, looks like it's been that way over 100 years based on my little reading.

IMHO...

The "guys" would not care about deviance at the college - or the college itself - as it does not affect their own family directly. They just like football ! And Joe is the perfect coach, so all is well for so many years.

Sandusky is just a little perv running his racket, "the boys" aren't too inclined to get that involved. Joe says he's ok, PSU knows they just have to keep a lid on it. I don't think "the boys" would think much about the PSU "brand" being bad for their business/the State of PA. PSU to them would be just a hobby, football, and Sandusky would just be some pervy dude that they laugh about.

Sandusky has the cojones to wave his client list around ? Insists on not being prosecuted ? Relies on Joe's good word ? All along nobody at PSU including Joe wants to open that can of worms publicly; but if only Sandusky will go down, why not cut him lose to save "the progam" ? Dunno...

Joe should have cut him lose years ago; was it Joe's loyalty to his player from way back in the 60's (Sandusky) that sunk the ship ?

I think he took off...the fact that he erases/destroyed his computers is very telling....

don't know if anything is related, but if you had a horrible crime to hide, wouldn't you want a slick cya district attorney on your case?.....makes everything so much easier...

Who knows. He is obviously not around to defend his actions or inactions.

One would think that in this day of the Internet a great deal could be determined without the actual hard drive. They apparently figured out what some of the last searches from his computer were (ie ‘how to destroy a hard drive’)

Almost as if this published summary of his last searches is an intentional misdirection.

No, that info came from his home computer, not the DA’s office laptop.

Well, I guess that was the case, since the next guy did take it to trial only to have things fall apart with the accused only copping to a minor charge and paying a fine.

It looks like Gricar had made the right call, or certainly a defensible one.

Thats the life of a DA, sometimes you choose not to prosecute based on the (lack of) facts. No matter what you "feel" about the alleged perp.

I just sat on a jury in a DUI case. After 7 hours of excruciating testimony, we the jury found the defendant Not Guilty (relatively quickly), and left the court wondering, why the hell the DA decided to try the case? It was a huge waste of money and time. The prosecution didn't look surprised or even very disappointed about the verdict either. It was like everyone was going through the motions...

There is also the PSU whitewash of Michael Mann whose “hockey stick” graph served the cause of climate change.

It seems to me there is a pattern of supporting showboats and casting ethics aside.

I probably didn’t explain my thought very well. We seem to be able to figure out quite a bit about what was coming to and going from computers these days. It is hard to believe we can’t figure out what was coming to and leaving from the DAs business computer. All email trails completely destroyed? All attachments gone?

It could be the defendant was 'connected' and the DA didn't want a conviction. This happens all the time when a cop commits a crime and the DA manipulates the grand jury proceedings so that there is no indictment issued. The DA gets his desired result and at the same time says it was the grand jury that disn't see enough evidence for an indictment.
