Prayer Request for my brother
12/01/2011 | TheMom

Posted on 12/01/2011 4:36:56 PM PST by TheMom

In February of this year my older brother went to the hospital due to severe pain and swelling in one leg. Those doctors could not figure out what was causing the pain and swelling, so they sent him home to see his own doctor. His doctor could not figure out the problem either; mean while his other leg started hurting. He was sent to Houston for yet another set of test; still no results. His doctor and the doctors in Houston tried different treatments (medicine) to treat his pain. By this time he has used up his vacation, sick leave and disability time at work so they fired him. Last month he went to another set of doctors, this time in Temple, TX for more test. They determined he had anmemia and hyper or hyposomething (I can’t remember) and asked him to come back this week for results of test and some more testing.

I received a phone call from my sister-in-law yesterday telling me the doctors determined my brother might have Myelofibrosis ~ which if not treated could lead to Leukemia. The ran different blood test and today did a bone marrow biopsy. Those test came back that he has Leukemia. Tomorrow the bone marrow results will determine if the type of Leukemia he has is aggressive or non-aggressive. If non-aggressive, he will receive a week of chemo and have to stay in the hospital for at least one month. My sister-in-law said she went blank before she could hear about what will happen if the Leukemia is aggressive.

Please pray that the Leukemia is non-aggressive and that my brother can be healed with as little as pain as possible.

thanks for the update, TheMom. Glad you were able to get to the hospital to visit. I’m sure it meant the world to Tony and Lynn. Our prayers continue here for their strength and God’s healing power.

Whether it was fun or not doesn't matter, except personally. (Actually, it did, a lot, for almost a year until I could walk correctly again)

The important part is the in-your-face 'Not only can I theoretically die, it may be going on now' And the checking of soul-state that invokes.

I have to admit, I was annoyed, but never frightened. When I finally do get killed off, everyone can know that I am sure and certain in my salvation. ;)

Prayers from folks here on FR, and my home church, and others probably had an effect.

But my advice is get good doctors, and try to not do that. (stepping off into open space) And be ok with God.

My brother is a born again Christian. He was going through an awful time about 15 years ago when God directed him to go into a church for guidance. Not only did God help him turn his life around, He put my brother in the path to meet his wonderful wife. No doubt that my brother and God are on a first name basis, and he has no fear of the after life.

It is the living that suffer from someone’s death. Although, suffer may not be the right word ~ we know they are in a much better place; we just miss the ones that are gone.

And on that note - when people are asked how they are doing and respond ‘I’m alive’ why does the asker always say ‘Beats the alternative’? Does it really? From what I have heard the alternative is a pretty cool place.

My first conscious words to family, via fingerspelling, because, for some reason they had me tied down and entubated... Go figure.... were "Live?"

And my sister said, yes, they think you will. I just snapped my fingers. I was somewhat disappointed that I'd have to do it all over again, someday.

I'm glad your brother knows Christ. He'll be ok, no matter what happens.

Prayers continue for His will in all of your lives.

The story of your accident is not laughing matter, but you snapping your fingers in an ‘aww shucks’ kinda way is humorous.

God kept you here for a reason. Maybe it was something so simple as to comfort those that are going through a tough time ~ those of us going through the tough time do not see that comfort as something not so simple, but a great help.

On that note... Remember what your brother feels about your worry.... I left Texas in 2007 to avoid the potential of a marriage, and moved, eventually, to a very remote spot in NM. I was home twice during that time, and actually called back maybe 4 or 5 times. I was mountain man.

Imagine my surpise when I wound up at Albequerque University Hospital with all of my sibs that were CONUS at my bedside... and my rickety old mom (God rest her). Such an outpouring of love, I've never seen before. As a result, I'm closer to my sibs than I have ever been since my voice changed.

What you do, matters. Prayers, visiting, asking for prayers etc....

But even very ill men have a sense of humor and appreciation.

I got gigged by one nurse in the Trauma Care ward when she told me that my mother was there. I asked her to fix my hair... I have long hair.. and then cocked my head to the side, with a blank stare and a drool.

I won't repeat what the nurse said about my little joke. But even a hurt kid needs to laugh... if it doesn't hurt too badly.

So sorry to hear about your brother. I hope it turns out to be the non-aggressive kind, and he recovers fully.
