A couple who concealed the sex of their child and raised it as ‘gender neutral’ for five years have finally revealed - it’s a boy.

Beck Laxton, 46, and partner Kieran Cooper, 44, decided not to reveal baby Sasha’s gender in the hope it would let its ‘real’ personality shine through.

They referred to it as 'the infant' and only allowed their child to play with ‘gender-neutral toys’ in their television-free home.

During the first five years of his life, Sasha has alternated between girls’ and boys’ outfits, leaving friends, playmates and relatives guessing.

There was a PBS show several decades ago about our culture creating the gender persona in boys and girls. In this study of several families, they tried having the boys play with girl’s toys and the girls play with boys toys, and things like that.

There was a follow-up show more than a decade later where they interviewed the parents involved in the study. They said that the boys insisted on being “boy-like” no matter what toys you gave them, and the girls were equally hard wired.

And this was a liberal group on PBS!

Back in the early 70’s my mother thought my young boys needed the experience of playing with baby dolls. The results were baby dolls with no heads used as weapons in cowboy games! Sometimes they were aimed and imagined to be guns.

I always have to go back to the then-president of Harvard, Larry Summers.

In some talk/speech, he floated the possibility that there just might be a difference between boys and girls, and some female biologist at MIT almost suffered a heart attack at that "concept".

It also got Summers (along with his idea that "professors" such as Cornel West should actually teach, since he's being paid to do so) booted out by the outcry from the humanities faculty.
