Tot's tantrum gets family kicked off plane

BOSTON, -- A family returning from a trip to Turks and Caicos said it cost them $2,000 when they were kicked off their flight to Boston due to their daughter's tantrum.

Colette Vieau said she and her husband were on a JetBlue plane preparing for takeoff in February with daughters Natalie, 2, and Cecilia, 3, when the younger girl threw a tantrum and refused to sit down, the New York Daily News reported Friday.

"We were holding them down with all of our might, seat belt on. And I said, 'We have them seated. Can we go now?' (The flight attendant) said the pilot's made a decision to turn the plane around," Vieau said.

She said the plane returned to the gate and her family was forced to spend the night in a hotel and book a new flight, costing them $2,000.

"We did what we were asked to do. We weren't belligerent, drunk, angry or screaming. We were just having a hard time struggling with our children," Vieau said.

JetBlue released a statement saying the flight "had customers that did not comply with crew member instructions for a prolonged time period. The captain elected to remove the customers involved for the safety of all customers and crew members on board."

The info said that her dad was not on the plane. She sounded terrified. I wonder if they put her on the plane to fly alone?

And the pilot said “DON’T MAKE ME TURN THIS PLANE AROUND!”

Sounds like their little emo child needed a whipping! Those tantrums left unchecked get really nasty when they are teenagers and then worse consequences as adults.

We always traveled with our 3 kids from the day they were born. So they were used to it, and rarely gave us any problems. When they were babies they would fall asleep as soon as the plane took off, or as soon as our car got on the road. As they got a little older, they were able to feet themselves, etc., they LOVED the airline food. That was back when you always got a meal. They took their coloring books, and drawing materials, and as they got older they took their video games, later I-Pods, etc. So I had no idea how blessed and lucky we were and are! They are all adults now. We HAD to fly a lot because we had out house south of Houston Texas, our house in San Marino California, and the grandparents in Oklahoma & Colorado. We flew a lot back and forth, and our kids always thought it was fun! The kids were pre-school thru early elementary school.

But I flew on Continental one time when the three people behind me were not pleasant to say the least. It was a young woman, and with her was a young retarded woman and her son. The son screamed and cried and kicked the back of my seat, the whole three hour flight from L A to Houston. I asked for ear phones. Back then you had to pay $5 for them. They refused to let me have any. At that time you had to have a coupon for them. I didn’t have an I-Pod or ear plugs with me. Now I have Bose Noise Cancelling Ear phones. Life is good.

Problem is now you would have likely been arrested for child abuse and your children taken by authorities after the flight turned around because of an abusive parent. It is hard to be a parent these days. My daughters are hesitant to correct their children at all in public. There is always one person claiming child abuse for even a raised voice. I am glad I am not raising children now because the spotlight is really on parents.

Me too! Why is it when I fly there are always screamers and no one does any thing about it. Just as irritating LOUD TALKERS on a flight. I always get put next to one. Thank goodness for my new ear phones.

We always took our kids to the restroom when they needed a little attitude adjustment in public. Once or twice and the only correction needed was to discretely ask them if they needed to “go to the restroom.”

Our daughter threw 2 tantrums when she was barely over one year old. Our oldest son, my husband and I, snuck down the hall and into a bedroom, where we could peak around the door and see what she did. She noticed that no one was watching her and she came looking for us, where we all laughed out loud. Didn’t take her long, a second or two, to figure out tantrums fell on deaf ears! We still laugh about it and she is the most beautiful adult scientist Austin Texas ever knew! She never went through the terrible twos, I guess she understood that it would get her no where. LOL

Oh, no, not on bricks. Our daughter’s two tantrums, about a nano second long, were on a rug. She ran to the rug before she threw herself down. It was so obvious that it was fake, drama, we ignored it and laughed. It’s still funny. She NEVER threw a tantrum in public.

“Why is it when I fly there are always screamers and no one does any thing about it. “

Because you will look like a jerk if you complain. Believe me, I did. Not only do I have my mp3 player but my laptop is also my hand-carry on every flight.

I am thankful smoking is no longer allowed on a flight. The second time we flew to Europe we were on row 22 and row 23 and back were smoking rows. As soon as they told us we could smoke, the smokers lit up, it was like sitting in a chimney or in a bowling alley! My husband and son fell asleep fast, I sat there choking in the smoke. LOL I don’t mind smoke when I am in an open place or where there is good ventilation. I don’t mind it at all, but on a jet plane UGH!

Also, I told my son in law that our daughter never went through the Terrible Twos. I was bragging on her. She has always been a quiet well behaved good girl. He answered me with a question, he said “So are you telling me to look for this in the future?” Ha ha ha Nope she isn’t going to start acting up now. She is such a joy in my life, I wish I had 10 or 12 kids, why did I stop at 3????

Having sat next to a family of 6 with 4 children under 5 years old, two of whom scream through the entire 4 hour flight, I wish we were on Jet Blue.

My kid and grandkid were allowed about 30 seconds of the first tantrum. There weren't any second tantrums.. I'm not talking about tiny babies but when they start walking and talking it is time for them to pay attention.

At some time in that kid's past throwing a tantrum got her what she wanted, why shouldn't she try again?

This Nation is now held hostage by adults who will throw a tantrum if they don't get everything handed to them. It's working, isn't it?

BTW, I never abused a kid, just made sure I had a reputation for doing what I say I'll do, don't call my bluff.

“The kid will continue to throw tantrums only as long as she can get away with it!”

That’s why I advocate ball gags and shock collars for children, through the teenage years, and wives, at any age.

Stop bragging about your children that never threw a tantrum as if that says what a great parent you are!!

Other freeper parents have children with autism who can “lose it” over small things. Have some heart. There are also plenty of small children without autism that can, if sick, tired, or overstimulated ALSO have a big fit.

Now, I agree that the crew decides if the family must leave the plane, and I’d abide by that rule with no lawsuit. I agree with it, and would be taking that risk flying with a small child.

But I don’t like to see freeper parents bragging about how their child never tantrumed. I have one like that too. It had nothing to do with you (assuming the children are kept well fed and enough sleep). Please feel for your fellow freeper parents who have been frustrated and humiliated with children who got out of control through no one’s fault.

No, a belt cannot whip autism out of a child, anyone who wants to post that old saw. You could have whipped my son to death sooner.
