These two cases are in no way the same..below is a synopsis of the Rowan case.

Rowan gained public notoriety on June 14, 1988, when he shot a teenage trespasser, Neil Smith, who was on his property illegally. He was charged for firing a gun that he did not legally own. Rowan was arrested and tried. During the trial, he argued that he had the right to use whatever means necessary to protect himself and his family. Critics charged hypocrisy, since Rowan was a strict gun control advocate. In a 1981 column, he advocated “a law that says anyone found in possession of a handgun except a legitimate officer of the law goes to jail—period.” In 1985, he called for “A complete and universal federal ban on the sale, manufacture, importation and possession of handguns (except for authorized police and military personnel).” [4][5]

... it was a group teenagers pool hopping in Rowan’s back yard... Rowan thought one of them was approaching him and shot him. The Trayvon shooting is very similar... Zimmerman said Trayvon attacked him then shot him.

The thing is Bulwinkle, we need a race riot right now in 2012, not in 1988.

And when you don’t have a race riot when you need a race riot, what do you do? You manufacture a race riot.

Gonna be an interesting summer I expect :(

How come we don’t hear about the BLACK kids who poured gasoline on a WHITE kid and lit him up?

Thus creating the saying “A conservative is a liberal who has been mugged”.

The only similarity is that both Rowan and Zimmerman shot an unarmed teenager. Rowan was on his own private property when he pulled the trigger; Zimmerman was on public property whan he killed the kid. Rowan's victim was actually commiting a crime; Zimmerman's victim medrely "looked suspiscious." Rowan did not chase his victim to initiate a confrontation after the police told him to back down; Zimmerman apparently pursued Trayvon AFTER THE POLICE TOLD ZIMMERMAN TO BACK DOWN as Trayvon was running away from Zimmerman towards the rear exit to the the neighborhood.

There is no use trying to make Zimmerman look in any way noble. From everything I have read he is a hot head, cop wannabe who provoked this episode.Evidently the kid got involved in physical fight with Zimmerman and got shot. I believe it should have been investigated properly. What the real issue in this case is, is that all the race baiters have come out of mothballs looking to make headlines. That is what is disgusting. They led the public to believe that Zimmerman was white and that this was a white on black crime. Every person of color is moaning that whites are looking to kill black males. The fact that zimmerman is hispanic and visibly so has made no difference. It remains a “white” crime.

You have to remember we are only hearing one side of the story. That part that plays into the theme of white racism. The real story may be much different as is often the case.

As to the two black teenagers who set a 13 year old white boy on fire for no reason other than racism I did not hear Obama say if I had two sons they would have looked like that.

He is trying to set off nation wide race riots for obvious reasons.

Zimmerman's victim medrely "looked suspicious."

Zimmerman's perp was beating the sh** out of him when he got shot. The other guy shot someone simply for being on his property. You're right there is a difference, the 1988 liberal is guilty of murder Zimmerman isn't.

BTW, assaulting someone simply because you don't like them following you is a crime and at the time he was assaulted by the kid Zimmerman was no longer following him, but on his way back to his truck. An eyewitness saw the whole thing and the kid started the fight and was assaulting Zimmerman. Try keeping up with the facts.

The difference was Carl was arrested and tried.

THAT is what is pissing everyone off. They let this guy go with his weapon. I know in most places the gun would have been taken as evidence until the end of the investigation.

These yahoos screwed up big time—but it appears they are doing it correctly now. But the mobs don’t care.

"Facts" have no bearing on whether the White House Racist wants to provoke a race riot.

Lord Obama wants a bloody shirt to wave.

Zimmerman was acting like a fool.

Had he done as he was told, the kid would be alive and he would confine driving around the neighborhood thinking he was the protector of the world.

The fact that he was following this guy and not backing off as told, could have been perceived as intimidating to Travis. It could be perceived that HE was acting in self defense.

Zimmerman gets no pass in this thing. I hate how this is blowing up. But it is his fault.

chase his victim to initiate a confrontation after the police told him to back down

The police did not tell him to "back down".
They told him that they did not need him to follow the suspicious individual.
I can't for the life of me think of any situation in which the police
would advise a concerned citizen to follow a suspicious individual, can you?
Even though the concerned citizen keeping the suspicious person in view would help the police locate him
they would leave themselves liable if, as it appears May have happened here,
the suspicious person was to attack the concerned citizen.
In other words it is the standard response to a concerned citizen.
Some say they detect a change in Z's breathing after receiving the police suggestion
indicating that he had stopped following M.
I haven't reviewed that part and can't give an opinion.

There is no evidence that Z chased down M to initiated a confrontation. None.
There is evidence that M approached Z and asked why Z was following him.
Z's response was to ask what M was doing in the area.
At that point the sounds of a scuffle were heard.
(Z's recorded call and M's gf's report of her call with M)

We can speculate who initiated the confrontation.

Was it the wannabe cop, the neighborhood Nazi, Zimmerman.

Was it the concerned citizen Zimmerman assuming some responsibility for neighbor safety.
Zimmerman, who had initiated many others calls to police regarding suspicious behavior
and who in one of his previous calls is heard saying he doesn't want to approach a suspicious individual?

Was was it the innocent 'young boy' who appears to be no more than 13
and no threat whatsoever to a hulking Zimmerman,
only out for skittles and on his was back to his Dad's?

Or was it the 6ft football player with a ghetto attitude who took offense to the 'white' Zimmerman disrespecting him by asking him why he was there?

...end speculation

What we do know from an eyewitness is that M is seen on top of Z and is beating on him.
We know from eye and ear witnesses and from 911 calls that Z is screaming for help.

We know that after a police investigation no charges where filed on Z.

Rowan still should have been convicted. Even if Zimmerman went further out of his way to get into trouble. So where does that leave Zimmerman?

Carl was arrested on a gun charge. Not the shooting. No gun charge for Zimmerman. Differant states differant laws.

That would be Carl T. Rowan to you, racist lackey.

Seriously, that's a great one. For those who don't recall, and assuming I can recall correctly, Carl was a famous (to himself anyway) media figure in Chicago; a writer for the Trib, I think. Anyway, he was a huge anti-2A voice always raving about ‘Saturday night specials’ and the usual malarkey. So, one dark night, a youth jumps the fence in Carl's swanky backyard and takes a swim in his private pool. Carl comes out and pops the kid with an unregistered (aka: illegal) handgun. Now, here's the best part: in the ensuing furor as the media sought to ignore and minimize the sh*t all over their faces, Carl holds a press conference and stridently declares (something to this effect): ‘While my political enemies crow, let it be known that as long as our streets are awash in guns I will protect my family!’ This was declared in his best MLK rolling gate cadence. That was truly priceless and should be broadcast from NY to LA hourly for the next 30 days.
