Warning! Be Careful Out there!
XXXX County Transportation Service ^ | 4/19/12 | County authorities

From: XXX County Transportation Adopt a Highway

Subject: BE CAREFUL!

A warning we have been made aware of states that kids are putting Drano, tin foil, and water into plastic drink bottles, capping it up and leaving it on lawns, gardens, driveways, in mail boxes just waiting for you to pick it up with the intention of putting it into the rubbish bags.

Know that you may never make it!

If the bottle is picked up, shaken, even just a little, in about thirty seconds or less, it can build up sufficient gas to explode with enough force to remove some of your extremities or blind you!

Pay attention to this! Be extremely careful when you pick up any plastic bottles that may be in your yards, on highway cleanup etc.

Please share information this with anyone you know and car about!

End of warning… This is actually good information to share here on FReeRepublic!

Let’s be careful out there!!!

About a week ago I did a Youtube search on these bombs and there are a lot of demos online.

We just got educated on IED 101. Might be useful against blue helmets or SEIU thugs.

Treat all foreign material appearing on your lawn as IEDs in Iraq.

iT’S ALUMINIMUM FOIL and it could be the cap on a plastic or even glass bottle . Which could disolve while putting it together and if the ingredients aren’t right can blow up while being made. BTW “tin” foil was usually lead not tin I don’t think it ever was made of tin and was common prior to WWII.

Alright. I never mentioned any type of foil, or any ingredients for that matter, as my info came from our local newspaper, which chose not to tell what went into the things. I had no idea what they were made of or not made of prior to this post. I think you may have hit reply to the wrong post. :)

On further research, yes, aluminum foil.

The flyer they are handing out reads tin foil and I transcribed directly from that...

This is useful info. May need to test these theories further...

Just been rummaging around youtube from the video you linked - looks like these things have been around since at least 2006 - starting, apparently, with Lysol “The Works” toilet bowl cleaner and aluminum foil...they call them Works.Bombs.

Well, I have a bow and I suppose one could shoot the things with an old broadhead. Seems a nice sized slice in the bottle would keep it from building up any pressure.

Might be a bit much but if I get an excuse to draw a bow, I’ll take it.

Sounds like fun!

If we DID find one around here, I'd send Mrs. JDO out with her pistol to blow it up... We were shooting targets in the back yard today and her marksmanship has finally passed mine with her hand cannon!

Alot of people still call Aluminum Foil, Tin Foil.

Be careful blowing that thing up...depending on the recipe they used, I believe the gas is either Hydrogen (which is very explosive) or Chlorine gas (which is very poisonous).
