Another thing I find “funny” is they’ve changed the colors of the “parties”. I’ve told everyone that in the “old” days, they always showed the Democrats as red.

I think they changed it because the Democrats are truly RED and they trying to change the perception of this fact.

Election Night 1984 - part 1 of 4!!

At about 3:32 of this clip of where Mondale is finishing speaking you can hear someone whoop it up and clap in the newsroom.

You can sense the sheer panic in Moscow and Tehran.

They changed the colors in the 2000 national election, IIRC.

I remember that election very well. I was about 9 years into my military career and after 4 years of peanut brain everyone I knew at the time was overjoyed that Reagan was our new CINC.

No, it was in 1984. Two of the networks changed, because they knew that it was going to be a wipeout. The few states they were expecting to go to Mondale would show up better in a sea of red, rather than the other way around. As it turned out, only one state (and DC) went for Mondale, and Minnesota by less than 10,000 votes.

I remember that night distinctly - my best friend [a BIG Lib - forgive me ...] and I were having some people over to my place to watch the election returns ...

We had a BIG bet on who was gonna win ...

Anyway, we were running a bit late and stopped off to buy a case of beer at the corner store about 7:55 pm ...

My friend popped in to get the beer, with me in the car - engine running ...

The national news came on the radio at 8:00 pm, he came out at 8:01 pm with the beer. I turn to him and say, “Reagan won ...” ...

He flipped his friggin’ lid !!! Election called [via exit polling] at 8:01 pm !!! I NEVER laughed so hard in my life !!!

“They changed the colors in the 2000 national election, IIRC.”

I think that the real reason should be very obvious to everyone here...

Thanks for this. I remember my happy dance, and a warm glow that it was truly morning in America. I felt optimistic for the world my baby son would grow up in. I hope to be that happy again at a momentous change in our country’s fortunes that will provide restored freedom for the country my grandchildren will grow up in.

The most recent grandchild is named Reagan. Her Mom was born on Reagan’s birthday, two years after he took office.
