Death from above: Hawk snatches reality TV star Shanna Moakler’s beloved lapdog

Moakler -- a former Miss USA and Playboy playmate, who currently hosts “Bridalplasty” on E! -- broke the news herself via her Twitter account, stating on Monday that “A eagle attacked my 2 chi's today, my girl pup is at the vet, my boy is missing.”

“Chi’s” are Chihuahuas, and Moakler later clarified that it was a hawk that attacked the pets at her Calabasas home. The small dogs are easy prey for large raptors like hawks and eagles -- in this case, one was injured and the other is presumably hawk food.

The president’s bird is trained to collect snacks for the WH dinner.

They all thought it was Wagyu!

Anyone who would leave their tiny Chihuahuas UNATTENDED OUTSIDE is NOT an animal lover. Any dog that looks conquerable to a raptor requires supervision outside. Just because a pet is too big to be carried away, doesn’t mean that a raptor won’t attack it and get what it can before it flies away.

Agree. Chihuahuas are advised not to come to the local dog park. Now my Standard Poodles, the two boys over 60 pounds, and Rufus, with lightning speed, would probably take the hawk out if it got close, but the little ones shouldn’t be in the open.

Last summer I saw a great horned owl make a low pass over my Jack Russell. Just getting a better look I guess.

Would they attack a 300 lb. Bull Mastiff?

Two winters ago we lost a min-pin pup, likely to an owl. She was the pick of the litter, a real beaut. All I did was let her out the back door and she was gone in less than two minutes.

I have a dog that eats coyotes for lunch. Raptors wouldn’t dare come near him.

We know of a Mexican eagle that patrols CA 76 through Oceanside/Vista. They eat doggies.

Had a neighbor who raised Yorkies. One evening a giant owl swooped one right off the porch as we were chatting and having a beer. It all happened in an instant. Unfortunately the yelping yorkie remained quite vocal for what seemed an eternity as it was carried off into the evening sky.

The neighbor and his wife were devistated.

Raptors were plentiful where I used to live so I was always out with my little rat dog. I do love the part in the movie “The Proposal” with the eagle, though.

We have bald eagles nesting near our house, and occasionally an owl. I never let my 2 yr old cavalier king charles spaniel out alone. 15 lbs of furry snack. Not to mention, apparently people are stealing purebred dogs from yards in broad daylight in our area (or the eagles are snacking)

Hardly looks ‘conquerable’ to a raptor.

If the raptor personally knows Obama the raptor may have second thoughts as dreams of an eternity of mastiff steaks filter into his bird brain. LOL!

My golden tends to bring us birds and other vermin that fly into our yard. Apparently he devised a good trap because I cannot figure out how he catches the birds.

As you probably know, English game wardens bred mastiffs with bulldogs after some unfortunate experiences with mastiffs dismembering poachers, some of them children.
The bull mastiff will knock an intruder down and stand on him. Sure you’ve noticed they have paws like a cat to assist them in stalking. And gamekeepers could feel their foreheads in the dark. If the forehead was wrinkled it meant something had gotten their attention.
Mine is a sweetheart: It’s only when she’s eating pork rib bones like bread-sticks that I remember she’s a beast.

My Cavalier puppy keeps bringing me moles that she catches. She pokes her nose down a hole then plows it along until she catches one. It’s like watching a Chip and Dale cartoon. You can see the ground heaving as it tunnels ahead of her.
