What is better. The French Connection or the unofficial sequel The Seven Ups? Both are great movies.
The French Connection had an actual sequel. It starred that guy who played Al Bundy on married with children.
Interesting. I never saw that. I thought the one with Al Bundy was part 2.
I remember watching Seven Ups in the Theatre about early seventies. Very exciting. When I see it on tv it brings me back to how good on the large screen when I first saw it.
I have a really hard time watching action flicks made before: cell phones, internet, prolific security cameras, bullet proof vests, modern footware, metal detectors, modern car tires shocks and brakes, etc. These things profoundly change how everything in an action film would actually go down.
It had the best car chase scene ever. The blow out over the GW bridge and they just conduct a demolition derby between a Pontiac Ventura and a Pontiac Grandville.

Famous scene. I remember the stuntman driver was the same one for Bullit and French Connection. He was on “whats my line “ revised seventies game show at that time.
I love watching these old movies with my kids.
“No special effects kids - well, except for the sound.”
“See how the scene cuts out? They ran over the camera while taking the corner!” (Bullitt?)
“And that is a REAL jump with fire cans in real time - no computer crap”
Tell me about it.
I would’ve paid folding money to see that. ;)
Do you mean movies actually filmed before the advent of such technological advances, but taking place in the "present" of that time? Or do you mean "period" movies, i.e. with the plot set in the past?
Do you likewise have a hard time watching war movies made before: high-resolution satellite reconnaissance, night-vision goggles, laser targeting, uranium-depleted ammunition, reactive armor, atomic subs, nuclear weapons, "smart" bombs, etc.?
Do you have a problem with "love" movies made before Internet dating, birth control pills, drive-in movie dating, etc.?
Regards,
A remake of the same story as last time? I suppose it is an entertaining story. I watched the FC once but I don’t support Hollyweird anymore.
Also had the best car chase scene ever (and still ranks second) until Bullitt came along.
Bullitt was made three years before TFC. Both great movies.
No it is not. TFC was so successful that 2oth Century Fox wanted to capitalize on the formula. They hired Sonny Grasso (Roy Scheider in both films) to create another story based on himself (Buddy). Seven Ups was much more fiction than TFC but styistically, dramatically structurally and generically they are first cousins.
yes, if those things affect the plot.
