Good Riddance. (Vanity)

About 17 years ago, in Rochester, NY, I befriended a small group of people. It was in my druggie days, and they were all big potheads. There was one couple in particular, the T's, I will call them.

I used to go to their frequent dinner parties, and all of us would have a grand old time. They loved inviting me, they called me the 'life of the party'.

Fast forward to now. I happen to look them up on FaceBook. We are all delighted to have reconnected. Things are cool. Over the course of time, the female starts bringing up politics, decrying those 'awful, racist TEABAGGERS'. I tell her my sympathies are with the Tea Party and all we want is a return to the Constitution. When she starts going on about how the Constitution was written by a bunch of racist, evil white men and that it needs to be completely rewritten, I advise her that we probably should avoid the politics discussions if we are going to remain friends.

She ends up being a founding member of Lincoln, Nebraska's Occupy Movement. She contacts me about it and wants me to celebrate it with her. I tell her that I am very happy she's found something that works in her life to avoid depression and her other issues, but I am opposed to the movement as a whole. Still, I stress, I'm happy that she's happy.

Over the course of time, I do my usual thing on facebook and post occasional taunts and jokes directed at the Occupy Wall Street movement. Then one day I notice that she's been missing in action. I go look her and her husband up.

They de-friended me.

Well, to that, I say, good freakin' riddence. I like to leave politics out of friendships, but you know what? OWS and the left are my ENEMIES. I cannot be friends with my absolute, mortal, hated enemy.

Now what would she want in her new constitution?? I bet she would like Gay marriage, the age of consent to be 1 day old, Socialism and all the founders that buildings (or towns) are named after renamed.

I bet she wants a tax rate on corperations at 99.999% and the rich at 99.9999%.

Am I correct??

De-friended by a liberal is a badge of honor, especially since you gave her several outs to keep it friendly.

I lost my lifetime best bud over the election debacle of 2000. Oh well, I now have nothing to do with libs of any flavor; envirowackos, abortionist, commies, homos, femmies. Life is too short, and all that stuff.

I’m with you, Laz. I find no redeeming value in remaining friends with Liberals/Progressives/Communists/Marxists. If the SHTF, you can bet they would turn on us in a heartbeat even if they had previously insisted what great friends we were.

Liberal friends are good for a few laughs. After that, they become rather boring. Every conversation eventually turns into assessing feelings.

Many years ago I sang in a group - we were all devout Christians and great friends. I just recently reconnected with some of them. They are all conservative - except one has gone absolutely far, far left - to the point where he got involved in the Obama campaign and has true communist songs posted.

I also notice there is no mention of his wife, a very good old friend of mine. But there is a new honey, it seems. And a strong inference that one of their children is gay.

As you stray from truth, your life slowly becomes out of order. It’s not hard and fast, and good people do have problems, but I see it so often. As proverbs says, the blind stumble in the dark, and do not even know what they are falling over...

This has been a popular thread. Apparently a lot of us have had this experience.

“They need to save the world. Their opponents are scum.”

Good observation. But I think it’s more than that. I think the ones that get really vitrolic are the ones with personal guilt.

The most prominent time I got cut off by an old friend for no reason was the one where she had an abortion, and I had a baby, at the same time. She literally couldn’t look at me any more. When your life is together, and you are leading it right, those that resent you and hate you because you don’t make their bad choices get obsessed with you.

It’s the quintessential characteristic of the left. They hate you, because you are not infected with their own bad decisions and problems. So they look for a power higher than life and chance to shut you down - the government.

“I have AIDS and no kids because I’m gay, and you have a happy family and are well? Well, s**** you, not only am I going to make you pay through the state for me to have kids and my meds, I am going to do my best to degrade your happiness and drag you through the mud!” That’s what I see from the left - over and over. It’s a mental disease.

Lincoln is a nice little city. Not really too liberal, overall.

I wonder if your ex-friend had anything to do with the protests at the capitol last weekend, people carrying signs damning the Republicans for their “war on women”. ?

She was a touch porky for my tastes. She didn’t appeal to me.

Fat, mean and liberal is no way to go through life, girl.

Two FB friends in particular, I've known both for 20+ years, are liberals. Not rabid radicals, just liberal.

Something I've noticed over the years is that these guys use the words 'I hate' more than any of my other friends.

Yup. She's in her 60's now but atheist, God-denying and probably still using. I was talking about my 12 step stuff and she said she could never be into 12 Steps because she doesn't believe in God.

100% props to you (and your Higher Power) for overcoming and getting clean. One of my fave uncles stayed clean for over 40 years the same way. Blessings to you.

I had a similar thing happen on Facebook.

I lost track of buddy of mine in high school. He was one of the smartest people I've ever met-- a real math genius, and he and I used to play D&D and Star Trek and other role-playing games, along some other guys of the same bent. This was 27 years ago now.

So, a year ago, we re-connected on Facebook. We immediately got started talking about philosophy, religion and politics, because I post a lot of the stories I read on FR on my Facebook page.

This guy--a preacher's kid-- was borderline atheist in high school, and pretty hard-drinking, but now he was a full-blown moonbat, global warming prophet of doom, and hated anything and everything to do with the Tea Party, Christians, Jews, and anything else even connected with God. Political conservatives? The very devil, in his opinion.

I finally asked him to unfriend me after he threatened to cross four states to come to my house and "kick my ass". (What set him off was a post on public school teachers molesting kids.)

I can't change him, so it's best not to interact with people like that.

I appreciate your posts, Laz, and have for years.
