EXCLUSIVE: Apple Has Destroyed 490,000 American Jobs
Business Insider ^ | May 1, 2012, 12:02 PM | Eric Platt and Ben Duronio

After taking heat for shipping jobs to China and contracting to employers with questionable labor conditions, Apple (rather publicly) took credit for creating more than half a million jobs in the U.S.

514,000 to be exact.

That figure included nearly 50,000 employees in its retail network and its corporate headquarters, where products are designed.

But it also included FedEx and UPS employees who deliver its products and employees at Corning who make glass for iPads and iPhones.

So Apple basically counts anyone vaguely associated with the company or its products as a job that Apple created.

But what about the competitors Apple has bumped off in its relentless move to the top?

What about the once-profitable markets, products, and companies it has destroyed? What happened to those jobs?

Business Insider analyzed data on Bloomberg, went through dozens of 10-Ks, and read through layoff announcements to see how Apple's peers have done.

What we found:

Apple has destroyed nearly as many jobs as it helped create, eliminating some 490,570 positions.

Corporate “America” is more about stealing American sovereignty and wealth for the few than enhancing it for the many. When it comes to the multi-national corps I look at them as traitors and thieves who will enrich their top dogs first and screw America second. It has been a 40 year pattern and I care not to hear the reasons. The only reason is greed not country.

I have lost all respect for the so called corporate America because it does not represent either the owner/shareholders or the USA. It represents CEOs and greed.

... and how Apple massacred the suckers who bought a Microsoft Zune, a Kindle Fire, or a Windows phone.

The whole creative destruction process. Hard to have a recovery, ever; when production is offshored. That is for all categories of industry.

Nor can the US economy compete against said wage arbitrage.

Competition is so evil. Is that the point?

How about blaming high taxes and over regulation?

The US has the highest corporate tax rates on EARTH. We also have over-regulated businesses.

If you blame corporations for the actions of government, you are deluded.

Sigh. We live in a time when any nosepicker can blurt out a brain fart and its held up as critical thinking. It's the attack of the energy wasters.

Well you know what? I don't see anyone picketing over the number of sandwiches Apple employees ate in the last twenty years that could have fed the hungry in Africa, either. I mean think about it - these are some of the welathiest, most coddled employees on the planet. And they couldn't spare a their measly sandwiches to save the lives of women and children in poverty with darker skin than they have who are completely cut off from anyone paying for their birth control?

Corporate pigs.

I think you meant to say the Barnes & Noble Nook. LOL

I didn't blame anyone. Just the obvious observation.

No matter if we cut all those taxes and regulations, it still comes down to wages.

However, the US has high standards of copyright protections and other factors that compensates for such inefficiency's.
