HAPPY TUESDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

W. Eugene Smith - The Walk to Paradise Garden

You Are The New Day – The King’s Singers
(Click)

May You Approach Each New Day With The Innocence, The Sense Of Wonder And The Optimism Of These Two Children!

There is a story behind this picture:

Always known as a photographer who would take almost any chance if it meant getting the picture, Gene Smith’s good luck throughout the Pacific deserted him on May 23, 1945. While on the east coast of Okinawa photographing an essay titled "A Day in the Life of a Front Line Soldier," he was seriously wounded by a Japanese shell fragment. The missile hit him in the head cutting both cheeks, injuring his tongue and knocking out several teeth. Characteristically, he was taking pictures at the time and the fragment passed through his left hand before entering his cheek just below the eye and near the nose. His comment in the hospital later: "I forgot to duck but I got a wonderful shot of those who did... my policy of standing up when the others are down finally caught up with me."

Ernie Pyle, another great war correspondent, who was on Okinawa with Smith and was not so lucky, wrote of him, "Gene Smith is an idealist, trying to do great good with his work but it will either break him or kill him."

Smith’s war wounds cost him two painful years of hospitalization and plastic surgery. During these years he took no pictures and whether he would ever be able to return to photography was doubtful. Then one day, during his period of convalescence, Smith took a walk with his two children and even though it was still intensely painful for him to operate a camera, came back with one of the most famous photographs of all time: "A Walk to Paradise Garden." This memorable image was to serve as the final picture in the famous "Family of Man" Exhibition.

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

A Veteran's Question

Soft, the breeze flutters the flag of nation's pride,
over the silent stones of those who served and died.
Here in the silence I remember them standing tall,
proud to have served when their nation did them call.
Now our 'leaders' are unfit to lead, and the masses weak,
heroes are forbidden, and honesty only few will even seek.
Democrat means Socialist, and enemy of all our values fair,
Republicans are weak, and fear even to get mad and swear.
America you are in danger, and so few care, even to pray,
freedoms drift as laws becomes false, is it the last of days?

I have a big 5 and ahalf foot( at least) snake looking in my glass door..I believe it is a rat snake..Markings look right He just keeps his head against the glass ..The kitties are fascinated and then jump and run LOL..
I won’t be going on the patio in the dark..They are aggressive but not venomous.

When there was a curled snake on my front porch, (not coiled into a ‘spring’ type, but just laying there, all curled, under my chair)......I called 9-11. I told them I feared there was a very large diamond back rattle-snake on my porch. They said they were sending “Animal Control” immediately.

Well, I got to thinking............what if it was one of those “King Snakes” that eats rodents and bugs, and are good to have on your property?

So, when they pulled up, about ten minutes later, I went to the truck and told them it was probably a ‘King Snake’ and I was sorry to have bothered them, (to cover my eminent embarassment.)

The officer took one look, and said, “OMG! This is the biggest _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _[expletive deleted] rattler I have ever seen!”

He caught it around the neck with a long tong type instrument, and tried to put it in his big bucket. (It is illegal to kill rattlers, here in AZ.)

He lifted the tong with the snakes head, way over his head, and the tail was still hitting the ground (about three feet of it!) The dayumed thing was over 6 1/2 feet long!

He finally got it into the bucket, and snapped the lid on, while he was visabilly sweating profusely, and said they would take it up to Flagstaff - and release it in the forest.

I did some checking on the net - and rattlers will re-claim their territory up to 100 miles!

I enter my yard with caution, since then - but have never seen him again.......(but keep my eyes open!)

My visitor finally left..I am glad he isn’t venomous..but I don’t want him around me! LOL Why he kept looking through the glass is a mystery. I loved watching the kitties watch the snake..Their “vigil” is what alerted me something was there. He was spread out up against the door and around the corner. of the large slider in the LR DR. to the Patio

I’m glad you didn’t rile the rattler..Those are dangerous!
The most venomous snake I’ve seen here at my house is small..a coral snake..

Glad your visitor did not return..!!

A Commitment To Care

June 27, 2012

During the months following the death of my wife’s mother, we received a number of cards and letters from the hospice team who had so lovingly cared for Mom and walked with our family along the pathway of loss. One letter offered thoughts on dealing constructively with grief. Another said, “As the date of your mother’s birthday approaches, we remember her, and our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.” These wonderful caregivers know that grieving is an ongoing process that requires continuing help and support. They exhibit deep compassion in all they do.

Paul’s words “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Gal. 6:2) come as an exclamation point to his description of life in the Spirit. In contrast to the destructive, self-centered acts of the sinful nature (Gal. 5:19-21), the fruit of the Holy Spirit in and through us is “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (vv.22-23). The great freedom we have in Christ allows us to serve each other in love (v.13).

A word of encouragement to a hurting friend can come like a refreshing rain. When we continue to care in tangible ways, it grows into a life-giving stream of healing and love.

Love is giving for the world’s needs,
Love is sharing as the Spirit leads,
Love is caring when the world cries,
Love is compassion with Christlike eyes. —Brandt
Compassion is the capacity to put Christlike love into action.

Read: Galatians 5:14–6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. —Galatians 6:2
Bible in a Year:
Psalms 100-102

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a Tuffet
Eating her curds and whey.
Along came a spider
Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away.

The first thing I do in the morning is to go to the kitchen, and turn on my coffee pot. While it is dripping, I tend to my morning duties.
This morning, when I went back to the kitchen to get my coffee (barefooted), a big spider crawled onto my foot and ran up my leg, all within a fraction of a second.
The coffee that I had just poured went all over the kitchen - cupboards, countertop, ran down the dishwasher, splattered all over the floor and even hit the tv.

It's gonna be a good day..........
