Alarm bells must be ringing in Microsoft's Redmond headquarters.
Microsoft is close to releasing Windows 8 and it's shaping up to be another "Vista". Only this time the repercussions could be much worse. The critics who have been using Windows 8 are extremely negative on the new look and feel of the operating system:
At Slate, Farhad Manjoo writes, "In my time with Windows 8, I’ve felt almost totally at sea—confused, paralyzed, angry, and ultimately resigned to the pain of having to alter the way I do most of my work."
At Marketwatch, John Dvorak says, "Windows 8 looks to me to be an unmitigated disaster that could decidedly hurt the company and its future ... The real problem is that it is both unusable and annoying."
Our own analyst, and long time Microsoft observer Matt Rosoff said, "I still think it's needlessly confusing and hard to use ... I've spoken to other people who have been testing Windows 8 for months. A lot of them found it puzzling like I did, and it's getting worse, not better, with each beta update."
Rosoff doesn't think it's going to be a disaster for Microsoft. He thinks Microsoft will be safe because it has so many other lines of business that are strong.

Much of open source software is that way but there's no money in it. If Microsoft created stable bug-free software they would quickly go out of business. Most commercial software is flashy but junky on purpose. It's the same business model as the Detroit car makers.
they do a litle more reporting on all types of tech products and seem to have a good feel for future products. The where first to show the “copy” of a stealth fighter made by the Chinese. I like what they bring to the table of tech info.
As a Unix user, I can just laugh.
I backup /home, and can restore a user to =exactly= the same condition they were in at the time of the backup. That includes all desktop settings/preferences, and whatnot, including any file they might have. I don't see what could be easier.
One of my most annoying “programmers trick” is when some idiot creates a file called “C:\whatever” in their home directory.
YOU may like relearning the UI regularly, and retraining all your employees, but some of us don't. Especially when the change brings no improvement, or DECREASES performance, while adding additional costs.
Well, you need some place to put the "shut down" button :-)
Unix sux
There is no integration of WinRT or Metro with the enterprise. Windows Phones and ARM tablets cannot join an Active Directory domain. They cannot be remotely managed through Group Policy. IT staff cannot install software remotely (including AV) or fix trouble tickets using Remote Administration. IT staff cannot install apps. Only the end-user can install apps, and then only from the public Microsoft Store.
So basically a Windows 8 phone or tablet has all the disadvantages of the iPhone/iPad/Android — no integration with the enterprise, no remote management, no domain control, no enterprise apps — with none of the advantages of Apple’s and Android’s large installed base.
Microsoft’s greatest strength is in the enterprise. Microsoft’s failure to leverage Windows 8 with their enterprise advantage is beyond stupid.
Oops- I meant LINUX sux
Apple’s operating systems are Unix-based. Unix existed long before any Microsoft products did and will likely long out-live all of them. Microsoft’s best days are behind it. Apple’s market value is now double Microsoft’s and corporate IT types are starting to buy Apple computers again.
Eh. I guess I’m not the only one that uses the underscore thingy in their file names and directories.
Who needs whtever new crap 8 brings? More goofy Mac type stuff? Keep Updating XP. My old HP calculators have worked for decades with the same operating system. Quit dicking around with things that work, just to try and up the cash flow.

Microsoft has announced she will stop supporting Windows XP by middle of 2014. They want everyone into Windows 7 at least by then.

The Windows OS has remained mostly unchanged since 1995! Other than some chrome here and some drop showdows there, the thing worked virtually the same since then.
And the changes made now is nothing more than a days worth of effort to learn for even the most dim office hen. And besides, you dont have to upgrade tomorrow, so why people act as if they are going to have to do this right now is just silly.
Lack of effort from some users, does not mean Windows need to ever change.
Yes, because stablity, usefulness, and robustness are bad things.
