Bob Beckel Drunk on the Air Again (VANITY)
FOX News ^ | 6/12/2012 | Me

Posted on 06/12/2012 6:53:09 AM PDT by Boogieman

Just caught Bob answering a question on the recent "Are you better off than you were four years ago poll." His answer went something like this:

"Look, four years ago was June, 2000. In June, 2000, the economy was doing well."

Not remembering what year it is might be a sign to cut out the martini breakfasts, Bob!

I have never watched The Five and he is the reason. I simply can't stand the man and his sneering condescension every time he opens his mouth. Alan Colmes has that same sneer, and, I won't watch anything he is on either.

I would hope the few liberals that might watch The Five, would see how some of their failed ideas sound when they come out of Beckel’s mouth.

Nothing like letting one of the enemy spout off and show how foolish they are.

Here’s a little anecdote about Beckel. I think his bluster is an act. years ago, when the great Tony Snow, Rest his soul, was alive he and I were friends and spoke often. This was during his media career, not White House. Anyway, I asked him who his favorite liberal was. Without missing a beat he answered Bob Beckel. I think he is a much different person than what he presents on the air.

Personally I like to see him in a position of having 4 people ganging up on his ridiculous commentary. He is made to look like the big oaf and buffoon that he is on a regular basis.

Well, if his brain short circuits, what does that say about him? Maybe he should think before he speaks? Rather than give us stream of consciousness babble?????????

Yesterday, Hannity had Beckel and two other guests on his radio show to discuss the absurd case of the primary school principal banning the use of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA.” Beckel launched into some rambling blather about that song being “inextricably linked to Republicans,” based on how many times it’s been played at GOP events. In his twisted mind the song should’ve been banned, but for a different reason than the one the principal gave.

I’m willing to bet $$$ Beckel’s reaction wouldn’t have been the same had the song been that Obama praise and worship piece foisted upon the those first graders a couple years back, i.e. “Barack Hussein Obama, mmm..mmm..MMM.”

I agree.
He’s harmless and he knows he’s there to be a foil.
My understanding is that he’s a recovering alcoholic and has been clean for a few years now. I think his liberal attitudes are slowly shifting right under the influence of the other 4 but he has a clintonion obligation to defend the “old” democrat party. I don’t think he truly supports Obumo and his band of miscreants.

Agreed. And I’d go further, to say it’s another sign of Roger Ailes’ genius that he picks such obnoxious leftwingers — like, but not limited to, Beckel and Colmes — to present “the other side” on FNC.

“Can’t stand him or Alan Colmes...”
Don’t forget Juan Williams. It’s great to have opposing views, however those three are obnoxious. I just switch the channel till they are off.

I would watch The Five more if ...
I would watch again (I quit many moons ago) if he wasn’t on the show at all.
Same wth BOR - his bloviating was bad enough, but giving air time to the über racist Lamont Hill forced me to stop watching.
Fair and balanced my arse.

Bob Beckel, actually goes to my old church—where he was invited by his very good friend Cal Thomas (yes, THAT Cal Thomas, the arch-Conservative).

Beckel used to drink, into alcoholism—but gave it up, when he gave his life to Christ. He also gave up any support for pro-abortion groups—support he used to routinely give. Unfortunately, he’s still a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat...and yes, something of a useful-idiot—and a token liberal Democrat on Fox.

Beckel is also though, a committed evangelical Christian.

(Yes being evangelical, and liberal... is an odd combination—and I don’t defend the irreconcilables there...)

Beckel, like Thomas is in his mid 60s...and probably is starting to fade a bit. Mental lapses like mixing up a date —under the nervousness of TV lights though...isn’t necessarily a sign of drunkenness.

He always seems drunk to me. They caught him on a hot mic on Hannity, swearing at a co-host coming off the commercial break a few weeks back. He tried to blame Hannity for it, but Hannity said that he told him they were back on air, and Beckel was too distracted to notice.

See my post above about Beckel & alcoholism—and faith.

Tony Snow was also a very committed evangelical Christian.

I’m originally from the DC area, and starting about 12 years ago or so, I routinely saw Beckel and Thomas sitting together in Church. I believe both still do...but I’m in NC now.

I heard Beckel’s story about committing his life to Christ (that happened in late ‘90s or early ‘00s I believe).

They were always friendly to other church goers... rule was though, NO political discussions at church!!!

Well, if this is him sober, maybe he needs to start drinking again.

I did an internship with Robert Novak—the ORIGINAL combative conservative (died in 09, I believe).

It was amusing to be with him at the TV studio...as he’d be yelling and waving his arms at his liberal opponent as the cameras were on...then, when done, they’d stop and chat like old friends.

Did Novak (as we called him) not really believe his publicly expressed convictions? No, he really did.

But TV (and Radio too, Rush-babies!) is ALL about DRAMA. That’s the way it is. Real life is more subdued—and people are people, with a real life, away from politics.
