He didn’t walk into the theater with that getup on. He bought a ticket, walked in dressed normally, sat down, watched the movie for 15-20 minutes, then made his way to the exit door that leads to the parking lot, and slipped out after fixing the door so it would not latch behind him. He went to his vehicle which was parked near the exit door and put on his gear, and gathered the weapons. Then he returned to the exit door, opened it and tossed in the smoke cannisters as he came back inside.

Usually an emergency exit will have a warning light or alarm to indicate it has been opened.

That keeps one person with a ticket from opening the door un-noticed and letting a bunch of freeloaders storm in.
