I’m simply wondering why people would buy it?

There you go again.

You should be wondering why government employees would buy it.

I'll give you a hint: Fast and Furious.

"WHY can people buy canisters of tear gas"

They can because they it's available and they can afford it. They may because it's legal.

Exactly. It’s the wrong question, which should always be why something should be outlawed, not why is it not...

Ever work the door of a rough bar on a hot Friday night ?
When you mix booze with bad attitude /jealousy /machismo it can lead to a full blown riot . Think pepper spray the size of a 5 pound fire extinguisher spray until empty & slam the damn door shut & wait for the gas to take effect while calling 9-1-1.

but for what purpose do civilians buy tear gas?

Well... it's surely not for zombies.

In my view, the very worst situation is that in which my government has gone so far over to the dark side is that due process and equal protection are nothing more than a fond memory.

And, in an intermediate place, I fear a situation, to which we are now far too close, in which our gov’t has spent so much on impossible wealth transfer programs that it doesn’t have anything like enough to keep the peace.

Example: I have taken lately to trying to defy time by riding a bicycle. It occurred to me that I am safe on public roads only because most people don’t want to hurt a geezer on a bike.

BUT, we’ve all read of the pool that has re-opened in Brooklyn. The sociopaths who live there and who go to the pool are so clueless that they not only fight but also attack the lifeguards for urging them to settle down.

They simply do not understand the concept of “civilization.” Their need to be “respected” is so urgent that soon the pool will be closed because of the violence.

When the very idea of social and civil intercourse is threatened so acutely, then the cry can only be, “to your tents, Israel!” and the duty to one’s immediate family is to make sure those tents are as defended as one can afford.

In such a case, anything, like tear gas, which will peel off the less serious threats from the more serious suddenly seems like a counsel of prudence.

We live in a sorrowful world. By refusing to confront and accept the sorrow Progressives have virtually guaranteed its increase.

So We the People can be as well armed as the police or military.
That is why we have a Second Amendment.

Some guy really messes up and he wants his girl to take him back he takes a whiff of tear gas and when she answers the door he’s standing there with reaal genuine tears running down his face.

Ends up costing him less than a sack of WhiteCastles.

Thanks.

I understand.

So it’s more of a “contingency” thing than a practical use thing?

I try!

Honestly, I wanted to ask this yesterday... but I thought, “I’ll just get killed if I ask that.”

I haven’t found any online answers though ... so I decided that even though it might annoy people to have me asking, this is the best place to ask.

Also... REALLY FUNNY! Especially Noumenon.

Good evening.

You wouldn't believe what damage you could do with what is in your medicine cabinet or under you sink.

Of course, I don't have a working knowledge of that...

Smoke cannisters like the use reported are used to mark landing areas in rough terrain or single aircraft from life rafts or small craft at sea.

Noxious or poison gas cannisters have regulation regarding transport for public safety just like all similar materials such as welding gas, flammable gas and similar. That is a world away from federal control at all levels.

Wouldn't it be more of a “thrift” thing?

How else would one refill one of those keychain type “pepper spray” devices?

I don't have one myself because I am old, lazy and physically and philosophically incapable of running away from a determined attacker. It's not that I mind having to buy certain ready made special use ammo...but not being able to recycle and reload the spent shells is irritating.(slight sarcasm, mostly LOL)
