Study Reveals Women More Prone To Road Rage Than Men
CBS Baltimore ^ | 07/28/2012

A new survey of America’s commuters reveals some interesting facts. Chief among them: many folks text and drive, while far more — especially women — have a tendency to fly off the handle.

The study was conducted by Harris Interactive between May 14 and June 4 of this year. Over 3,800 commuters were surveyed, all of whom were employed full-time and most of whom (83%) drove to their workplaces. For the purposes of the study, Harris limited participants to those who were not self-employed and not in government jobs.

When all the dust had settled, Harris found that America has some very angry drivers, and quite a few who aren’t entirely safety-conscious. Here are the major takeaways:

Women are more prone to road rage than men. Of those surveyed, 61% of women said that they had experienced road rage, compared to 56% of men.

Younger drivers are more prone to road rage than older ones. Roughly 68% of respondents between 25 and 34 years old said they experienced road rage, while just 47% of those 55 and older said the same.

It’s too darn hot (for road rage): 17% of those surveyed said they experienced less road rage during the summer months, while 10% said they experienced more.

Roughly 9% of commuters have actually gotten into a fight with another commuter.

Almost one in four commuters — 24% to be precise — has been involved in an accidenten route to work. We’d expect that figure to be a little higher because…

Fully 30% of commuters have sent text messages while driving to and from work.

Maybe women are just more prone not to lie about it.

Why?

That or road rage to women is flipping the bird while road rage to men is getting out of the car.

Luckily they don’t do much about it, I’ve never seen females get out of their cars to fight it out.

I get road frustration, not road rage. Mainly when slow traffic moves into the left lane, or when everyone at the head of the lane is driving at the same speed and thus preventing traffic from passing.

I got out of the car once. And I’m female. I got out to argue when the other driver got out. Needless to say, I’ll never do that again.

I got out once as well, and was the one who had sense enough to realize where things were headed, weighed the advantages (none) & disadvantages (many), and got back in.

Of course this handed the other guy a victory by default, & he got to strut off as if he'd won a huge victory.

It really is best to keep eyes forward and focus on just getting from point a to point b, because there is no good outcome in road rage incidents.

Depends on how you read that ~ so, are women more prone to road rage than women are prone to men ~ see!

We are not talking about an obvious behavior but to a preference for maybe an emotional state.

So, which is it ~ does the highway excite them more than men excite them?

The numbers would be even worse if they included government employees.

When I got back into the car, the guy came right up to my window and lifted his hand to hit me. Luckily, I was already on the cell with the police. When they lectured me later, I explained that, by getting out, I was trying to keep him away from the car and attract attention from other people. They said I should’ve locked the doors, closed the windows, and sat tight. (I was blocked by two cars, but in hindsight, I guess I could’ve backed up to get away.)

BTW, it all started because another woman driver yelled an obscenity at me while driving by (small street, and I guess I didn’t move over fast enough for her royal highness). So it began as an argument between two women, and she must’ve called this guy to back her up. LOL... funny, considering this study.

Yeah, avoiding such people and situations starts with understanding that there is absolutely no way to win.

Some woman stopped in front of me and got out of her car—she thought I had cut her off. I pulled around and left her standing in the road.

Getting out of the car is an aggressive act and there isn’t a male out there when another driver gets out of their car who won’t respond in kind.....

Any driver who gets out of their vehicle (during a road rage incident) and approaches the other vehicle better expect to get into a fight.....

Unfortunately ladies, there are guys that don’t mind hitting a gal....those numbers increase in a road rage confrontation.....

And don’t think bringing a gun will help, you’ll go to prison if you get out first and approach the other vehicle armed....

But did she have a weapon or tire iron in her hand, was she prepared to take it all the way, men will, and stop for that reason.

LOL, what a nasty remark. Women just HATE being exposed as less than little angels. And what's their favorite response? Stab a man and change the subject - just like you did.

Women don't have more road rage than men because men are liars, huh?

How about women have FAR MORE road rage than men, AND lie more than men, so the statistics for women are TOO LOW, while men have no reason to lie about something so trivial because they aren't pretending to be angels?

What are you going to do now, burn down my city?

Female hypocrisy and rage - it NEVER ends, because they're INSANE (that's they're "secret" - shhhh, don't tell, because it's SO hard to see).

:: spit ::

I hear ya. For the record, the guy got out of his car first, after blocking my car with his. I got out expecting no more than an argument. This happened on my own street, not far from my house. I figured the guy must be a neighbor. I never went up to his car, just stood at my door.

Bottom line: You’re right - it’s probably never a good idea to get out of the car at all.
