Most grenades have fuzes that burn for about 3 seconds after their pins have been pulled.

In my experience the explosion can take 6 or seven seconds, enough time for a line or two of witty banter, or perhaps an exclamation of recognition.

Right. This wanker wasn’t holding the grenade tight enough and let the fuse go while posing for his photo-op. I always remembered that a hand grenade should be at least three seconds. So this is completely “loose nut behind the wheel”, right? Thank you for the help.

I read an account of a couple of soldiers that had gotten their hands on a case of old grenades from Ordinance Disposal and some spoiled chickens from the mess hall, and decided to go shark fishing. They went out in a rubber raft and were tying a grenade to a chicken, and a piece of fishing line to the pin ring. They’d throw one out and just before the shark would swallow it they’d pull the pin. It was fun watching the sharks blow up until one of them swallowed the chicken and then turned and swam under the boat.
