Black woman stands her ground, kills white man
Spero News ^ | September 18, 2012 | Martin Barillas

Houston area investigators are looking into a stand-your-ground case where after a minor fender-bender, a 22-year-old white male was shot and killed by a 23-year-old black woman. During a morning commute, Crystal Scott and Jonathan Ables were in an accident and pulled into a Shell gasoline station to survey the damage.

According to Scott, Ables exited his truck and ran toward her driver-side door. Scott said he yelled and then hit her door and tried to open it. Fearing for her life, Scott pulled her pistol and shot Ables once through the driver’s window and struck him in the chest. Ables died at the scene.

A Harris County Sheriff’s spokesman, Sgt. Felipe Rivera said “From what we understand it was maybe just a minor accident,” while adding, “The information we’re getting is that it appeared to be a minor accident that turned into road rage.”

An eyewitness, who appeared on camera but has requested anonymity, said that he did not hear any threat in the seconds before Scott killed Ables. The witness was pumping gas and standing 15 feet away from Ables when a bullet ricocheted past him and struck his car. The bullet left a noticeable impression on the witness’s car.

As for Scott’s version of events, the witness said that if Ables had shouted or banged on the car, he would have heard it. “What drew my attention was the gunshot,” said the witness. “I just want to be sure that I do everything in my power that everything is fair. I care about it being fair,” he said. The Harris County sheriff’s department has not yet responded to Spero News’ request for any security footage of the shooting.

Did you take a real good look at the way this guy has this laid out? Which words go with which pictures ~ and are they just his comments, or is there an insurance adjustor or cop providing him official stuff.

The storyline leading into this discussion suggests she plugged him at very close range. Your pictures have her using a pistol to shoot through her window across the maneuvering area at a large gas station and hitting him just so.

Good shot!

Again I don't know that either of these two people were obligated to exchange information.

It's the law in most states and probably Texas as well. You would do well to know that so that you don't shoot someone coming up to your car after an accident???

There's this interstate going East into Chicago where there's no berm so they have accident pull off areas ~ and they have signs up telling you to keep moving!

Depends on the state and the circumstances. Time of day might even make a difference.

WE ARE CURRENTLY HAviNG An overflight by a formation of jet fighters at low altitude ~ very unusual.

You cited Allstate's website but you never did answer the question:

What does Allstate advise one to do after an accident????

Exchange insurance information, refuse to exchange insurance information, shoot the person requesting insurance information, or what???

One incident doesn’t a pattern make. It may happen, but it’s not exactly common.

“Stand your ground” does not mean “shoot anything that moves”

This woman should be charged with murder

She shot THROUGH the car window. So there was NO threat. He may even have been yelling at her... but MUCH LESS a danger than if he had, oh... I dunno... dropped her on the ground with a sucker punch and sat on top of her bashing her head into the ground.

He had a passenger in the truck with him who said he was only going over to exchange insurance information.

No he didn't.

His girlfriend, who was notified of his death via "social media", said that she thought he was going over to exchange insurance information.

She wasn't there.

So apparently you can go around and bump another car, and when the other driver comes out to talk to you, you can shoot him.

I apologize. One article quotes his girlfriend as saying he was going to exchange insurance information . . . and says she learned of his death by social media.

Another article says that a witness (co-worker) says he was going to exchange insurance information.

However, that article also says there was a third witness who confirms the story that he was acting aggressively.

There is a lot of something on that website, but what it is I’m not entirely sure. I see a damaged window, but that could have been her car, or the car that was hit by the ricochet. I don’t believe it says.

In fact, I’m not even sure that it was a ricochet, rather than the bullet passing through the decedent, more likely since only one (?) bullet was believed fired.

Bottom line: I’m reserving some judgment here until the police have their say.

Just as with the Zimmerman case I want to see the details.

I agree completely.

Not at all surprising she shot the guy if he came all the way to her window!
///
they had the accident, on the road.
there was no “road rage” there.
(logically, that would have occurred, first, and immediately)
instead, they simply, calmly moved to the gas station.
to exchange insurance information.
...as his passenger SAID, he went over to her,
to do that.
...and she shot him through the window.
in a crowded gas station, with witnesses nearby.
-
cold-blooded murder. of a young father with 2 children.

So apparently you can go around and bump another car, and when the other driver comes out to talk to you, you can shoot him.

Under the Texas law? Pretty much. She had no obligation to retreat and was justified in using any force she thought necessary against someone she believed was trying to illegally enter her house, car, or workplace.

Yes, forgiveness is very difficult. I had a real challenge to forgive an adoptive mother who was both alcoholic and paranoid and used me as her scapegoat for everything she didn’t like about her life.
The fact is we cannot do it on our own, we must have the Lord’s help. The secret is in asking God to first make us willing to forgive; that change of heart is a work only He can do.
God bless.
