While the pull-up has been used by everyone from middle-school gym teachers to Marine drill instructors to measure fitness, the fact is that many fit people, particularly women, can't do even one. To perform a pull-up, you place your hands on a raised bar using an overhand grip, arms fully extended and feet off the floor. (The same exercise, performed with an underhand grip, is often called a chin-up.) Using the muscles in your arms and back, you pull yourself up until your chin passes the bar. Then the body is lowered until the arms are straight, and the exercise is repeated. The Marines say a male recruit should be able to do at least 3 pull-ups or chin-ups, but women are not required to do them. In school, 14-year-old boys can earn the highest...

“A nut without the right bolt is useless! The same is true for the reverse! “
This bolt found the right nut and we are both happy.
Women’s elbows ‘bend’ more than men’s putting women at a disadvantage?
Women tend to be more flexible, often resulting in hyper-extension of joints. This would not put them at a disadvantage unless a man had a marked limitation of extension. (There is a mechanical advantage as a joint approaches mid-range of its possible movement.
LOL!
Well I hope they escape my fate as an aging gymnast....old injuries are now haunting me!
It ain’t pretty.
"Many women will be unable to do them - not because of a lack of upper body strength, but because of the carrying angle at the elbow. a man's elbow is typically much more straight than a woman's; this gives them a bio-mechanical advantage with certain activities, such as the pull-up."
Women also don’t have to sign up for the draft.
until they do, they can pretend to be whatever makes them feel ‘equal’.
I took the Marine Corps PT test and the Army PT test, and was only aware of one way to do a pull up, what is the difference that you saw?
I stopped doing pull-ups after my socks got stretched out of shape.....
With Army pullups when you grip the bar your knuckles are not visible to you. With Marine pullups your knuckles are visible to you.
Is this a female thing? If not then something changed in doing pull-ups because there was never an”army” pull-up and a “marine” pull up, just pull-ups.
I just looked up jump school and it said that pull-ups have been “lifted” since 2006, did they eliminate pullups in jump school, what they heck is going on since women got in?
Pull-Ups are critical.
At the tender age of 61+, I pride myself on my ability to meet or exceed every military entrance physical requirement.
Most guys my age, if they’re not already dead, claim that my ability to do at least 10 pull-ups, is attributed to my low weight - not a lot of weight to pull up. They can’t even do one - correctly.
Stay in shape men. You never know when you - or your country - will need you !
And women, stay in shape too. I don’t care if you can’t do any Pull-Ups, just stay in Shape...
Hah. Not only could I do pull ups, I did the iron cross when I was 13.
But Broderick Crawford could dodge bullets like a champ!
I had to google that one!
