Yes hollow points are used. Officers must qualify with what they will use in the field.

Hollow points aren’t much more expensive. OTOH, the frangible-bullet rounds are another matter....

We used to shoot several times a year (changed now and then). We only shot duty ammo once per year. Our practice ammo was an equivalent but a full metal jacket. There can be a bit of price difference if you buy ammo by the 10’s of thousands. I doubt that DHS uses hollow points for practice, but they may. Most agencies fire duty ammo once per year sometimes once every 2 years. WE used to shoot what we carried and were issued new. Figured that it had been exposed to the elements.

Yes, DHS does use hollow points for practice. I am absolutely sure of this.

Thanks for the first hand knowledge on this subject. Much has been said in ignorance recently.

Finally, a voice of reason in an ever increasing conspiracy heavy world.

It still begs the question: Why, under this administration, would they move from an annual buy to a 5-year buy? It's about the only time I've seen them tell us they were doing something to save money. Just because someone is a conspiracy theorist doesn't mean there isn't a conspiracy...

Why is the Department of Homeland Security buying so many bullets?

Because they just bought a bunch of Dillon progressive reloading presses and want to try them out?
