I suspect “Gilroy Garlic” is now coming from China as it did a couple of years ago. There is not a lot of garlic grown near Gilroy any longer due to disease in the soil so they have it farmed in the Central Valley for years. We still have 3 bags of last years crop in the freezer which seems to improve the flavor.

Hi Mike: Christopher Ranch does not process or repack Chinese garlic.

Christopher Ranch is the garlic we buy, but I’m not be at all surprised that some “growers” would cash in on the Gilroy name by repackaging Chinese garlic. “Packaged in USA” vs “Product of USA” vs “Grown in USA” vs “Distributed by XYZ Produce, Gilroy, CA, USA”, all have different legal meanings. Only “grown in” is safe, assuming no fraud involved.
