Friday, April 19, 2013, during a manhunt for a bombing suspect, police and federal agents spent the day storming people's homes and performing illegal searches. While it was unclear initially if the home searches were voluntary, it is now crystal clear that they were absolutely NOT voluntary. Police were filmed ripping people from their homes at gunpoint, marching the residents out with their hands raised in submission, and then storming the homes to perform their illegal searches.
This was part of a larger operation that involved total lockdown of the suburban neighbor to Boston. Roads were barricaded and vehicle traffic was prohibited. A No-Fly Zone was declared over the town. People were "ordered" to stay indoors. Businesses were told not to open. National Guard soldiers helped with the lockdown, and were photographed checking IDs of pedestrians on the streets. All the while, police were performing these disgusting house-to-house searches.
So, what's your policy position here, then, that we disband the police and our military?
Boston, Cambridge, Watertown - Those towns are filled with college students. No matter what their parents think, they are NOT studying 12 hours a day. They’re typical college students. Just imagine what was going through their minds as the cops were banging on the door. Imagine trying to hide all that stuff.
Your comments on this thread clearly demonstrate the serious problem that we have in this country. I’m sure that you truly believe that the actions depicted in the video are perfectly legal and perfectly acceptable. If they have been ruled legal in a court of law, we really do have a serious problem. If they have just been assumed to be legal by an overzealous law enforcement community, that is still a problem, just less serious.
What you are saying is that law enforcement may determine on its own that a situation permits them to bypass the constitutional constraints on government and behave like a police state by storming people’s private residences, manhandling innocent civilians while brandishing weapons in their faces with the sole rationale that a dangerous criminal is on the loose. Dangerous criminals being pretty ubiquitous in large cities, it seems to me that this behavior could become quite commonplace.
If I had directed operations like this in a combat zone, I would have likely been court martialed. I note from history that the greatest atrocities committed by the Germans on the Eastern Front came not from the front line combat troops, but from the rear echelon SS special troops who could play out their little Nazi fantasies on an unarmed civilian population. Is this where we are headed?

Modern police are a necessary evil, but they are certainly evil.
Someone doesn’t get it that the wholesale armed invasions of people at home is unconstitutional even with the exception at play. Search? Yes. Putting guns to people’s heads wholesale? No.

Sorry, but the terrorists won, civilians terrorized by their own police and people still lost their lives and limbs at the marathon. Who was saved? What exactly was a half dead 19 yr. old going to do?

An interesting debate and one that can be settled if we all go read the constitution.
I only want proof that these videos floating around are actually what happened at most homes before I comment on what went on in general. If this dragging people out at gun point, with their hands up, etc. was done at any other place than a place that was suspected of having to do with the actual perps...then it should be totally and thoroughly condemned and lawsuits should be brought.
My other concern is that the terrorists saw that a huge city could be shut down, people locked in their homes, and major economic and social disruptions could be had by two people setting off pressure cooker bombs in a crowded place. Expect more, if this is going to be our standard response. This is the Hamas model for terrorizing Israel.
Law enforcement officers have to weigh these things out every single day out in the real world, where real people's lives are on the line, including their own.

There is no proof anyone else was in immediate danger or at risk and there is no proof evidence was being destroyed. this was an “extended hue and cry” in the streets and IF the reports are true that the cops seized weapons and other items during these searches I hope some law firm sues the hell out of the LEO’s. Even putting some in prison for violations of 18USC,242.

And they are bound by oath to uphold the law. BTW, I was bound by similar constraints under situations considerably more dangerous to me personally than any police officer faces in this country.
This argument is bigger than that, but unless there is a search warrant the military police should not be allowed in. Every person has a right to privacy.
