Good for him. I guess he’s too old to be afraid to speak his mind or give his opinion.

What sets me back isn’t women comediennes but women with no sense of humor.

Making stupid faces isn’t funny and requires no talent. I can’t stand Jim Carey either!

Jerry L is entitled to his own reactions and he’s from an earlier generation.
But yeah, there have been some funny lady comics. If it’s comedic acting, no question. Julia Dreyfuss is doing a pretty good job on that VEEP program, all the women on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Lucille Ball, Phyllis Diller, many others.

“Personally, most comedy writers and comics are the most humorless people on earth. I used to type for them as a kid in Los Angeles so I know whereof I speak.”
Just because they weren’t funny around a child typist, that doesn’t mean they weren’t funny around adults.

I come from a family of comedy writers and they dont even admit that Lucy is funny. The primary reason for that is because Lucille Ball wasn't funny.

I saw her many times on the old Ed Sullivan Show. She always ended her routine with a tug on her left ear. Do a YouTube search or a google search, its there.

Jerry Lewis has been a dreadful person since childhood. I knew someone (who is now deceased) who knew him when he was 10 years old, and said that he was the worst brat he had ever seen. Some things never change...he's a horror as a person and evidently has always been that way.
I do think he was very funny in his prime, though.

I remember watching the Carol Burnett Show. I also remember when she did a skit slamming Anita Bryant when Anita commented on queers. Carol was one of Rock Hudson’s cheerleaders.
To: nickcarraway
When she first started out, Rosanne Barr was funny. Especially her routines on her weight and diets.

This will date me but thought Carol Burnett had her moments. Her skits were very funny with the help of her supporting cast and writers. Never forget her Scarlet O'Hara wearing the drapes with the curtain rods still in them. I can out date you. I thought Imogene Coca was funny with Sid Caesar in the 50s.

Yes, but she didn't do stand up comedy on the Sullivan show. She appeared on the Ed Sullivan show five times. The first time she did impressions of singers auditioning. The second time she sang, "I'm in Love with John Foster Dulles" and "Puppy Love." The third time was in 1958 for an Emmy award show. The fourth time was to do a sketch about a teen girl with braces. The final time was in 1970 when she was presented the "Comedienne of 1970" award by Lucille Ball.
As far as stand up comedy is concerned, from her bio at IMDB:
[on never trying stand-up comedy] I can't tell a joke to save my soul. It's just not my thing, though I love to listen to jokes. I remember Ed Wynn, a famous comedian who started out in vaudeville, once said "Stand-up comedians say funny things. Sketch comedians say things funny." Isn't that a good distinction?

He gave the examples of Cary Grant and Burt Reynolds, so I don’t think he meant just stand-ups.
To: Alex Murphy; Williams
I mentioned her in post #6.
To: aruanan
What you dscribe as her act fits my definition as stand-up. She stood alone on stage and entertained with comedy. That’s stand-up by any reasonable definition.

Was he thinking of Sandra Bernhard?
I think this is Sandra's impression of Condi Rice:
