Stop using popular search engines and try others. Make them pay attention to your privacy concerns.

“Snowden a traitor” was a rhetorical question. I don’t think he’s one either. He’s a whistleblower.

I’m just thinking...

...wouldn’t we bring more unwelcome attention to ourselves from spynet using browsers designed to be anonymous?

I think the final answer here is to overwhelm spynet with miss-information and harmless minutiae. Perhaps with a program that engages when our computers are static.

Just a thought...in the mean time seeker41 correct that Google should be hit in the pocketbook...by us voting with our feet.

I am as straight arrow as they come, however I just do not like the direction this government has taken.

I have nothing to hide with the exception of youthful mistakes we all make.

It makes me uncomfortable knowing when someone types, speaks or writes something purposefully or not might it be used against them when it was completely innocent.

That is in my mind the crux of this issue...

Agreed. Even here at FR they're running GoogleAnalytics, which I block. Always have, always will.

How do you block it?

I’ll stick with Google, thank you. Nothing to hide.

Google supports the enemy, so I don't use them. But I think I might just start doing flagged searches to see how long it takes for the FBI/IRS/HSA to knock on my door. Using the words kill, constitution, Tea Party and Obama in the same sentence might work, right?

changing your browser does very little to mitigate privacy concerns. Your computer, itself, and your ip address will reveal a treasure trove of information to any capable investigator or computer forensic lab. If people want privacy in this day and age, they need to gain, at the minimum, a rudimentary understanding of the technology that they are using and rely upon. For instance: what happens when you search or go to a web address, what is a temp file, what are cookies, etc.

We all weave a giant web through our use of technology. The thing to remember is: nothing is temporary in the digital age and there is ALWAYS a digital trail unless great lengths have been used to mask your tracks (multiple proxies, ever changing mac addresses, etc).

"How do you block it?"

I use the FireFox web browser and a plugin called NoScript, which makes it very simple to block sites from running any sort of active scripting on your computer. I also use a second plugin called Ghostery, which works similarly to NoScript, but provides some further "tracker" protection.

I have used Duck Duck Go, Hot Bot and Yippy as search engines in the past. I only go to yahoo to use the fantasy stuff and read the sports area, but U-Verse uses email accounts through them. For email I don’t know a good service for free. SO I am stuck with yahoo or Google.
