We don't know how, but we missed a major scandal brewing in the Navy for decades. It's important, so even if we're a little late to the story we still wanted to point it out: Cap'n Crunch is an impostor.
The Cap'n was unmasked on June 14 by a food blogger, who noticed the uniform he wears on cereal boxes had the stripes of a commander, not a captain. That is: A captain has four stripes on his sleeve, while a commander has three.
As the story spread, the Navy confirmed what you might be fearing: Cap'n Crunch is a fraud, tricking innocent children since his introduction in 1963.

this begs the BIG question: is Dr.Who really a doctor?
Judging from this Captain’s insignia, I am guessing he’s a Captain in Some Rural Fire Department. AND he has FIVE stripes on his sleeve!
You are correct! As a retired Navy man I can assure you his mustache isn’t within regulations. (Even in the Adm Zumwalt days! lol)
What does five stripes signify? Would that mean that My beloved Captain Kangaroo is actually an Admiral? :-)
An executive from PepsiCo takes an executive from NPR to lunch. He discusses a nice contribution his company is thinking about making to NPR.
Then in passing he mentions a fun little story NPR might like to run about a “controversy” over the Cap’n uniform.
The Pepsico exec goes back to his office and cuts a check, The NPR exec goes back and cuts a segment.
Sales of Cap’n Crunch spike upwards for a couple of weeks and a few $million flows right to the bottom line.
He’s a doektah.
Now they’re in my breakfast cereal. Them Nazis are everywhere.
Yep. Most submarine captains are, in fact, Commanders. I even saw a Master Chief Captain on a tug once.
He deserves it! :-)
Back in my days playing the original Call Of Duty online, my name was Captain Andtennille...
He was a dragon.
A Daryl Dragon to be precise.
I've infrequently wondered if there are some occasions when he should be Dr. Whom.
"Come taste these sweet wee morsels!"
[I know, I know, it's hard to keep track.]
It varies. Best information: ie not from the Doctor (Rule One: The Doctor lies) is that he gained a doctorate from the Prydonian Academy on Gallifrey Class of '92 (with a grade of 51% on his second attempt)
There are no “5 stripes” in the Military. An Admiral would have 1 two inch stripe (not sure of the width), then one, two or three stripes (same as a Captain) depending on the rank.
You mean to tell me, Captain Kangaroo is a FAKE?
OH the Humanity!
Relax! He’s not fake, he’s a fireman. See the insignia on his cap. I hope you can sleep tonight! lol :0
Yes..I noticed the insignia on his hat! LOL!
