Interesting turn of a phrase, could be interpreted other than intended. ( big grin )
Shingles are tough. I work/run an Urgent Care here in N.C. and have seen about 8 cases in the last 6 months. One was a woman who paid out of pocket for the shingles shot (200 dollars she said) who broke out in the rash the next day. She was madder than a wet hen. I told her that she was already infected if she broke out within 12 hours. Famvir is the way to go plus pain meds. Post herpetic neuralgia can last over a year. I have seen this twice in my 30 plus year career.
A doctor took blood from my mother’s arm and gave her a shot with it in her rear and she got over shingles in short order. He called it “treating you the old fashion way.” That was about 50 years ago...he couldn’t do it because of red tape today. But it worked. He was a neighbor and family friend. He also was a genius. Really.
Valtrex on this end. And by some miracle I went to the doctor the day after the rash, so I’m hoping the long-term impact is minimal.
Out of the friggin’ blue I tell ya.
I don’t know why you think Singles is funny. I know several people who have suffered horribly with it. My husband’s case was fairly easy compared to some. I know a man who had it in his eye and they were afraid he would end up blind.
Will keep you in my prayers. A dear lady at my church just got over a bad case. She recovered from open heart surgery last year and she said she would rather do that again than ever have shingles!!! I can only imagine what u r going thru....
Correction....*thought*.I was new at the job, knew nothing about how medicine worked but that charge nurse set me straight.Twenty years of experience in that ER set me straight on many more things...very few of them funny.Heart attacks, strokes, gunshot wounds, car accidents, cancer, etc.
There's very little about medicine...health...that I consider funny *today*.
High doses of lysine have ended several severe episodes of shingles for me. Now I keep bottle of lysine tablets in my home in case I have future attacks.
I saw some ads on TV about shingles. I remember thinking that I had chicken pox when I was a kid.
Maybe 4-5 months ago, I was reading a brochure in the Dr.s waiting room about shingles. It got my attention. When I saw the Dr. I asked for the shot. My insurance paid for it.
When my mother and dad had the shingles the doctor gave them prednisone and and anti depressant for pain. He got the ‘recipe’ from a pain management specialist.
Had it at least three times. The last time it was by my left shoulder blade. I felt like someone had plunged a knife into my back. It lasted six months. Hope you feel better soon. :(
Shingles will seem easy if you meet your maker without knowing Him. I would advise you to find someone who knows Him and be introduced. It is the most important thing you will ever do. Plus the rewards are out of this world.
I had them on my forehead and in my left eye some years ago. Since then, I’ve had them flare up in the nerves of my left forefinger (had to wear a splint for 6 months) and in my throat. On a pain scale of 10, these little suckers read about a 14.5
I’m 66
I tried looking up CVS to see if it listed the price for the vaccine (it didn’t) and came across their recommendation that those over 60 years of age have it. (older than I thought)
Hepatitus B vaccine was something offered at CVS and is recommended for:
Sexually active adults not in a mutually monogamous relationship.
Never hear this mentioned in the media so I was surprised.
From what I understand even if you've had shingles you should still get the vaccination.
What medication did the doctor give you?
Not everyone can afford it and it is considered only 70% effective.
