What if Barbie looked like a real woman?

How many girls dream of looking like Barbie when they grow up – only to realize it’s physically impossible?

Estimates of what a woman would look like if she had Barbie’s measurements rack up – so to speak – at about 39”-20”-33″. She would be 6 to 7 feet tall and only weigh about 100 to 108 pounds.

Photographer and artist Nickolay Lamm aimed to answer this question recently by creating 3D images of a Barbie doll with a “real-life”. Lamm used CDC measurements for the average American 19-year-old female in creating his doll – she has a 33.6-inch waist and weighs 150 pounds.

Image: Barbie with no makeup

I adored Barbie as much as the next middle class white kid, but after gazing at Lamm’s doll for a minute, it was the archetype that looked strange.

These images exemplify the bizarre and fictitious ideals girls and boys grow up with. I’m not even sure what Mattel’s motivation is in keeping Barbie’s crazy measurements – wouldn’t a more realistic version sell just as well? We’re not even getting into the cultural and racial diversity Barbie lacks.

Another travesty is they forced Barbie to wear pumps! Squeezing her feet into high heels - that was teaching little girls it was okay to disfigure your feet, tee hee.

Didn't the feminists come out with a doll that was more "realistically proportioned" so that little girls wouldn't be "traumatized" by poor body image?

I forget the name of the doll, but it was a gigantic flop.

It would be like making a Hulk action figure with white skin, and a build like a hipster vegan.

So that little boys won't be "traumatized" that they'll never be green muscle-bound fighters. It's TOYS, people.

Kids want to pretend. Let them.

Earring Magic Ken was a huge collectible among the homos. Look him up, he was queer as a three dollar bill a couple decades ago.

Here in Tucson, half the town looks like total criminal tattoo’d trailer trash. The gym I used to go to — I think I was the only woman to not have one tattoo. And, these gals were tattoo’d head to toe, like they were all just out of prison. So disgusting. So, the Southern AZ Barbie would have to have tattoos head-to-toe.

I guess they don't consider this Barbie to be black enough?

No, like Michael Steele and the Oreos on the package, she is only black on the outside.

Yep yep yep.

Barbie clothes come off, never seem to go back on. Of course having skin tight clothes on rubber skin that required the fingernail strength of a robot to get back on.

Actually Lara Stone of Holland is very close to Barbie’s real measurements.

She's 12.5 inches tall?

I worked with a girl at a Summer retreat that everyone called “Barbie” Not that she really looked like barbie. She was tall well built with a nice face and blonde hair. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would have given her a 9 which is very pretty as I am a tough scorer.`

I worked in the post office and noticed a postcard to a friend she had in Arkansas. She basically said there were no available boys and that other girls had already hooked up with the good ones......She came in about a week late which is probably why

She is to scale, assuming Davinci’s Vitruvian ratios apply.

Why does Barbie have to look real? When I was a kid, I never gave a single thought to her proportions, nor did any of the other little girls. We just loved dressing her up.

I've never seen any doll or cartoon character that was a perfectly scaled human, yet Barbie drives the Left nuts.

I knew a couple who friends called them. Ken and Barbie. They were both very skinny. His name was Ken and he had that Ken doll beard going. They were both exceptionally good singers. The met while singing backup for some famous Christian singer. I forgot who. He was about 6” taller then her. He was also only about 5’4”.
