self-ping for later, but store-bought chix is so cheap that I’ve never wanted to go this route. Smelly nasty mess, especially the plucking.

Back in 1959-1960, we raised chickens in our back yard. We used a hatchet to decapitate those chicks who grew up to be roosters, so I can relate to the expression, “running around like a chicken with its head cut off.” It took a long time and a lot of work to prepare a chicken for the frying pan or barbecue spit, but it was worth it.

We just take one chicken and wave it over the soup pot now and then, it’ll last a good 6 months. Mom used to call that “depression soup”.
