Went to the mail box and was aggressed by new neighbors Pit Bull (Freeper opinions requested)

Posted on 08/07/2013 6:37:18 PM PDT by RoosterRedux

I retired 10 years ago to take of elderly parents. Dad died peacefully last year and Mom is still kicking.

After spending the afternoon in the eye doc's office with Mom, came home and, after settling her down, went for the mail.

New neighbor has a Pit-Bull and today this dog was loose. As I went to the mail box, the dog ran over to the middle of the street (perhaps 15 feet away) and bared his teeth.

His owners were in the yard but did not call the dog. At the same time a UPS truck stop in front of their house, but the driver refused to get out of his truck.

Question is "what steps do I take as a good citizen?"

The next door neighbors inherited the house from the girl's grandmother. The girl's husband is a born again Christian...but he was previously in prison for drugs.

Pit Bull is young but large and aggressive.

Freeper opinions appreciated.

BTW, I have cats who lounge around in the front yard. If this dog kills my cats...I am apt to become upset. And an upset Freeper (armed to the teeth) is not a nice thing to behold.

Most od dog agression is fear on the dog’s part, and imagination on your part.

It’s worse when you are standing than when sitting or squatting.

Yes, I understand that. And you are right..secure the dog or lose it. I am hoping the dog was not raised badly or is mental. Just hoping...

I once had a neighbor with two big lab mixes that would get our and run the neighborhood. They weren’t nice labs and were agressive.

I didn’t do anything except be careful and watch my kids closely. One day they cornered my wife in our garage. Turned out ok but I’ll never be nice about dangerous dogs again.

Let’s get something straight.

This is not a situation of the mailman being nipped on the heels by a yappie dog.

This is going to be a long-term concern. This is a FReeper with a new, potentially unsavory neighbor, who keeps a well-known aggressive breed, who apparently has no concern that it’s off-property and behaving aggressively to others. This FReeper has an elderly mother, and more than likely, other neighbors with children. If you think for one minute that the “best” response to what will be (no doubt) an on-going relationship with this animal is to kneel down and act kindly, you need to have your head extracted from your hindquarters.

If the dog really wants you down, he can get you there very quickly. In fact the very fact that the dog has approached but still kept distance indicates that you are at a psychological advantage in the encounter.

If you stay cool, you are in control with dogs.

You obviously know absolutely nothing about dogs.

You should shut up and just read.

While he diddles around with useless chatter his cats are gonna get munched, maybe him too. Once a dog shows unprovoked aggression, game over, do what you gotta to get RID of it.

Ii should also add that I take my 2 dogs to the “doggie park” here in our town every afternoon.

If you are taking 2 dogs, I take it Mandy is still a fixture?

If the dog eats your cats, and you catch him in the act, use the .357. If the dog comes in your yard and growls at you, growl back, and use the .357. If the dog is friendly and comes in your yard, feed it, and it will be more friendly.

Ask about his home insurance and then report him to his insurance carrier.

A Browning Auto-5 would be my recommendation.
Buy a box of Buckshot and destroy the monster.

One thing you could do is get an even larger and meaner dog than his. Say an airdale. buy him a collar covered with spikes which will keep the bull dog off his neck.

The bull dog will all most certainly attack but will lose and they wont give up until they are dead. Then your problems are over. At least your dog problems are.
