A new documentary, which airs tonight on PBS, explores the psychology behind yellow fever - the phenomenon that sees white men attracted to, and sometimes even obsessed with, Asian women.
Filmed and directed by Debbie Lum, a fourth-generation Chinese-American from St Louis, Missouri, Seeking Asian Female looks to discover why many men see Asians as ideal wives, a concept that is 'very painful for the Asian-American community,' Ms Lum told ABC News.

That yellow fever is very alluring
There sure is, I clicked on it thinking it was a medical thread.
obsessed?
maybe :)
My mother in law has a saying. An ugly man will always find a woman. An ugly woman has problems.
I was going to post that I got an inoculation for yellow fever in the Navy, and now I realize it didn’t work after all these years thinking it did.
Far as I can tell, those two groups want absolutely nothing to do with each other.
I lived in Vietnam for several years in the ‘90’s. I saw a lot of friends with serious girlfriends and I had one as well. I also saw a few friends marry Vietnamese women.
VN women want to marry foreigners primarily to get out of Vietnam/away from communism. (my opinion supported by input from Vietnamese people)
VN women enjoy being women, they don’t want to be men and they really don’t want to be Westerners although they want to dress like Westerners and enjoy the “toys” that Westerners have.
VN women enjoy VN men but think foreigners are very attractive and they believe all foreigners are wealthy.
Once a VN woman marries a foreigner and gets out of VN she is usually already pregnant having tried from day one to get pregnant, she will seek a divorce quickly suing for house and as much money as she can get. Bottom line: She is like a Western woman in this way. She wants the offspring and the money and all the trappings of wealth but not the baggage. I’ve seen this happen too many times.
There’s probably more I could share but I’m concentrating on Inbev products right now.
If you think I’m speaking strictly from a VN visitor POV, I’ll mention I’ve been to every country in SE Asia, most a number of times.
Lol! My Dad always referred to them as “Bazooms”!
Oh, DO tell!
There was a survey about American males and females many years ago. The survey was to measure how European males and females viewed American males and females.
European females generally liked American males and disliked American females as brassy and overbearing. European males also disliked American females and wondered why American males were such wussies they didn't stand up to these witches.
’ a concept that is ‘very painful for the Asian-American community,’
I’ve had any number of Asian women tell me they prefer white males to their Asian counter parts.
Also to be considered is the stage of life one is enjoying. I’m 68. I’m not nearly as captured by physical beauty as I am by companionship. There is nothing which substitutes for a good companion, a person with whm you can discuss the state of the nation and world, and with whom you can share to future burdens in trust.
That may well be my view at that stage, but I’m not there yet.
Yep
Sterling example .. except that dog is really cute! I have Miss Kitty. She is always dressed tot he nines ... she’s a tuxedo cat.
Someone up-thread mentioned this and I think it’s true. Asian women see to revel in their femininity. They espouse it. They embody it. They wallow in it. I don’t see submissiveness it that. I see rather honesty and understanding and devotion to it. They seem to try to be the damnedest woman you’ve ever seen.
That’s not submission to me. Submission is deferring to the man. Accepting physical violence. Being treated like a piece of meat. Speaking only when spoken to. That’s crap and it’s not what I would call submissive. I would call that victim-hood and/or slavery. That’s not what healthy couples or relationships should have.
Being a “good” woman is the same as being a “good” man. Knowing the roll and knowing the boundaries.
I know
but if the alternatives are turning gay or life long celibacy and loneliness?
Hard to believe now, but there was a time when men spent more time doing things that real men do (exploring, hunting, fishing, jawing, drinking, and fighting) than chasing skirts.
This current obsession with womanizing is destroying any resemblance we have to our forefathers and wholly unhealthy... lol
