My husband and I visited Russia in 2008. It was mildly interesting.
The Russians have a long, long, long, long way to catch up to the west.
IMHO they are STUCK in 1942 and will probably be so for a long, long, long, long time.

Yep, the food was mediocre.

While I think they’re playing fast and loose with the numbers and terms, $38M for an opening IMAX 3-D weekend is extremely respectable.

“Enemy at the Gates” EXCELLENT movie if you missed it.
(WWII Stalingrad)

“East West” excellent as well.
(post WWII living with Soviet Communism)

Both Russia and Germany suffered irreplaceable genetic losses between 1914 thru 1945.They lost their brightest and best. Neither culture will ever recover as immigrants are transforming those countries irreversibly.

Are you leaving England and France out. England probably nver could have recovered from what they lost 1914-1918 alone.

I sure hope it’s better than the musical stage production,
e.g.: `How Do You Solve A Problem Like Vasily Zaitsev?’

9th Company was a decent Russian film.

Available on Netflix.

**”Stalingrad,” a Russian film directed by Fyodor Bondarchuk,***

His dad did the eight hour epic WAR AND PEACE and WATERLOO back in 1967 and 1971. I have both of those in my DVD collection.

I also have a German film STALINGRAD to go along with it.

If he filmed it like his dad did W & P he will build the entire city for a set.

Bondrchuk’s War and Peace makes the Henry Fonda version look like Cliff’s Notes.

A few years I ordered a Soviet-made film from Netflix, called “Come And See.” It was about partisan activity, harassing the Wehrmacht as they were retreating. English subtitles of course.

You are of course correct. The genetic losses that Europe suffered between 1914 thru 1945, followed by modern birth control and widespread abortion has forever altered European culture. Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, and Russia are hollow shells of what they were in 1914. For slightly different reasons so is the United States.

Younger people don't remember but prior to 1914, Europe was considerably ahead of the United States in virtually all areas. The two world wars all but destroyed European civilization.

It's quite possible that without those wars, Europe would today still be masters of the world.

The major problem being, what rhymes with Vasily.

When you replace 18 million Jews with 20 million Muslims, deterioration is inevitable.
