Accused Rapist Writes Letters Saying 'I'm Sorry'

The FGCU student accused of sexually battering two female students and attacking another is saying, "I'm sorry" with a pen and paper.

WINK News just obtained letters Joshua Sekulic wrote to two of his alleged victims: a woman he's accused of raping on October 24th and another woman who said he forced her into oral sex just six days later.

The similar one-page letters included these words:

"You invited me over, I took that as a sign that you wanted to have sex."

"I did not think that you wanted me to stop and I kept going."

"What transpired that night was a mistake."

"I hope this apology helps you somewhat and I wish you the best."

Joshua Sekulic wrote the letters Monday, the day he was arrested. The following day, a judge ordered he have no contact with the women.

Students on campus who read Sekulic's letters say words may not be enough in this situation. "There is no way to apologize for his actions," Allie Wood said. "I mean, he is in the wrong and nothing he says or does is going to make that girl feel better or comforted for the situation she was put in."

"At this point, it's the only thing he could do, but it will never be enough," Jean-Maxime Benon said. "I mean, he marked those girls for life. They are going to remember this for a long time. It's nothing words on a piece of paper will ever change."

The junior is banned from campus and his fraternity says he is no longer a member. Still, friends and family are standing behind him, posting words of encouragement on his Facebook page and promises of prayers.

WINK News spoke with attorney Joe Viacava, who is not connected to this case. He said, not only is this an apology letter, it is an admission of guilt and that will have a definite effect on how Sekulic's case is handled in court. His arraignment is set for December 9th.

That’s it? I’m sorry and an order to stay away from them?

“What transpired that night was a mistake.”

Shades of Bill Clinton.

Have to know more about the case to draw an accurate conclusion. By coincidence I happen to have a friend who works on wrongful rape cases where the men were unjustly sentenced and jailed but they usually involve late teenage females that don’t want to get in trouble with their parents so they claim the guy raped them. Generally the guys end up serving time, he reinterviews the women who are usually now several years older and he shows them what the men are going through and many have recanted and confessed. My friend won’t take the case unless he’s absolutely sure the charges were filed falsely though.
