>> When I was growing up, there was no such thing as lactose-intolerant, glucose-intolerant, etc.

I could have written your post myself, word for word. I don’t get it either. My personal opinion is it’s just another symptom of the prideful, “it’s all about me” society we have become. Everyone’s looking within to the point of obsession; not so many look up to the Creator!

I’m sure I’ll get flamed for that but NOT ONE OF THEM has ever rigorously explained precisely why, after five thousand years of wheat, barley, etc as dietary staples, it’s just in the past 20 years that the poor victims are suffering and demand special accommodation everywhere they go (including the Holy Communion table).

The past 20 years? High fructose corn syrup. I don’t do well with it and after reducing carbs down to 5-10% of my intake I have never felt better. It’s not the gluten per se that is the problem, it is the processed carbohydrates.

Agree with your assessment NT. And I was horrified to hear my granddaughter tell me that there is a “peanut-free” table at school.
Did you hear of that stupid prank Jimmy Kimmel played on kids, having their parents inform them that they ate all of their Halloween candy? Well, I would rather be invited to have lunch with my granddaughter at her school, ask to sit at the peanut-free table, pull out my fresh baguette slathered with pb and j and start munching.
Any bets on what would happen next? Projectile teachers and parents, screams, evictions and a possible arrest? LOL
Well, I won’t do it for fear of embarrassing my granddaughter..but believe me, it’s tempting.

Please post your address, next time one of my two boys that has celiacs eats wheat by accident, I will send you the results to you, I can assure you will be disgusted by the results, probably more than I am disgusted by your ignorance...

BTW Both are young men that would love to eat pizza and drink beer, I think pride has nothing to do with it...

So the problems don't actually exist? Celiac and sometimes-fatal peanut allergies are actually "pride" and God will simply heal them of it?

Very interesting thought processes going on there.

I’m with you on the “what has happened” in recent years, to have caused all the ailments not seen years ago.

I’m not talking just the last 20 years, tho. I’m older than most here, and when I was a pediatric nurse in the 50s, there were celiacs, of course, so I do know these diseases exist.

But what has been done to our foods — grains and everything — that had not been the norm in our G’parents or GGParent’s day. GMO or the like?

And as far as peanut-free tables? My husband and daughter have true peanut and tree nut allergies. (My husband is now in this mid-80s) They felt like they were queer, when they were growing up, if they said they couldn’t eat peanut butter or any other nut. There was simply a genetic thing in him, that was passed on to her. A G’son has the same gene.

BUT! THEY were the ones who adjusted THEIR lives. They learned to be very careful and were always aware of what they ate. How does a peanut-free zone in a school or lunchroom protect the allergy sufferers when they go out in the world and touch a door knob that was just touched by someone coming from a lunch of a PJ sandwich. How about sitting on a bus with those who have eaten nuts, or standing beside them on a crowded subway. There are hundreds of scenarios in life. You can’t change the world around you. YOU adjust.
