Its tempting to call David Perlmutters dietary advice radical. The neurologist and president of the Perlmutter Health Center in Naples, Fla., believes all carbs, including highly touted whole grains, are devastating to our brains. He claims we must make major changes in our eating habits as a society to ward off terrifying increases in Alzheimers disease and dementia rates.
And yet Perlmutter argues that his recommendations are not radical at all. In fact, he says, his suggested menu adheres more closely to the way mankind has eaten for most of human history.
Whats deviant, he insists, is our modern diet. Dementia, chronic headaches, depression, epilepsy and other contemporary scourges are not in our genes, he claims. Its in the food you eat, Perlmutter writes in his bestselling new book, Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth About Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar Your Brains Silent Killers. The origin of brain disease is in many cases predominantly dietary....

I can see you’ve never been to India.
Seriously, my health has improved a lot since virtually eliminating wheat from my diet. The ADM GMO concoctions on American plates seem to bear little resemblance to wheat as it was historically consumed.
Just litened to the Gluten E-Summit. It was good. I am a person who always tries to aviod carbs, but I have got to get serious!
Exactly! Went on an Atkins cruise and did a comedy routine on the ship. People raved and asked if I was a Professional...........Including DR. Atkins!
STEAK! Rib eye!
My pediatrician was singing the same tune in the sixties. And just like Dr. Atkins, he was marginalized and eventually driven from his practice because of his “radical” notions.
I finally took his advice and gave up grains several years ago. Amazingly, the supposedly “incurable disease” I was diagnosed with in my thirties seems to be in permanent remission. I took steroids for many years, but less than a month after dumping grains I was off the steroids. I’m near fifty and I feel better than at any time since my early twenties.
The impact wasn’t just limited to my supposed incurable disease, I no longer suffer from headaches either. Almost daily headaches had been a part of my life since high school. I can’t remember my last headache.
If Mr. Perlmutter doesn’t like grain, he shouldn’t eat it.
Otherwise, he should leave those of us who do the Hell alone.
Add to that, the effects of the ingredient change - from iodine to bromine.
File under: “Seemed like a good idea at the time...” : /

Quack alert! Quack alert!
I suffered from indigestion, heartburn, and esophageal reflux for years....and then one day I heard an interview with a doctor who revealed all of the dangerous aspects of wheat. I eliminated wheat products from my diet, and those problems went away immediately.
Amazing, that.
I’m with you, however, I just perused the single-malt Scotch row at a store last night, and prices have escalated to the point where I’ll have to eliminate that from my diet too.
I’ll just have to make do with the assorted Rhones, Burgundies, Bordeaux, Brunellos, and Riojas I have sitting on the racks here in my man-cave. I guess I’ll have a Pernand-Vergelesses with my lamb meat balls and fresh garden greens tonight.
Olive oil, hempseed oil, and certain fatty foods such as salmon, trout, whitefish, avocados, etc.
I have read recently that coconut oil contains a ketone which is used directly as food by the brain (in other words, it doesn’t require processing by the body).
Amen sister
you live in Chicago?
May I ask where you found the flour? I’m currently in Tampa
oK I love avocado, can eat a whole one for lunch, also salmon and I use olive oil, I can also eat a whole can of olives at a sitting
