Book Thief from IMDB.com
While subjected to the horrors of World War II Germany, young Liesel finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. Under the stairs in her home, a Jewish refugee is being sheltered by her adoptive parents.
Samantha Barks is in it...she's amazing. She played Éponine in Les Misérables. And, Susan Boyle...all she has to do is sing and it's worth the price to see this. I cannot wait to see it. Again, many thanks!
$2500 a screen isn’t all that pathetic. The film’s been out four weeks, is on relatively few screens, and still did over four hundred grand last week, which puts it at about two million so far. The budget was 7 million, which means break-even will be about twenty million. It was about 20th on the weekend chart. With DVD, foreign, and TV still to come, I wouldn’t put it in the “disaster” column quite yet.
There’s a saying in the biz: All movies make money eventually.
This is a GREAT Family film. It deals with faith and prayer. And small town community relationships. So is it a surprise that Atheist Marxist Liberals would hate it?
A Christmas movie with a Christmas hymn. In my youth lots of top music talent would put out a Christmas song each year between Thanksgiving and Christmas and some of them even became classics. Don’t see or rather hear that much any more.
If I have to hear that Mariah Carey Christmas song one more time, I'm going to go insane.
Same here. Never heard of it. Sounds like a decent film. Now that I know it exists, will look for it. I think my wife and kids would like it.
Any new Xmas movie is going to be judged harshly, especially if its a traditional celebration of Baby Jesus’ birth. Don’t be discouraged Mr. Santorum and company. Next time though, spend more time publicizing it. Get Sarah or Todd to review it, or help direct it. I think “It’s A Wonderful Life” was an underwhelming flop upon its debut also.
Sylvester McCoy? The worst Doctor?
LOL!
She’s magnificent. God bless this fragile, well-loved woman.
That place she’s performing in—that’s a church? Incredible.
I believe “It’s A Wonderful Life” also was a flop until now it is a classic tradition on tv during the Christmas Season.
Looks like good family entertainment. Just because its not getting good liberal press doesn’t mean it isn’t a good movie. People may not know this, but the Wizard of Oz wasn’t a big hit either when it first come out.
Actually I may be thinking of It’s a Wonderful Life that wasn’t a big hit at first.
The people at Salon simply hate God. They would like this film to flop. Films having anything to do with God fly in the face of their extreme left-wing atheistic ideology and narrative. Get a life, Salon.
Oh, so it’s Salon, I always confuse “Slate” and “Salon”, Slate may not be great but Salon is yes, basically, the leftist press like The Nation, etc. Salon isn’t to be trusted, they had the writer who was hoping the Boston Marathon bombers would be white.
I already look for out of the mainstream movies, “Nativity”, that movie is not perfect but it’s something that can still be watched around Christmas time. It certainly isn’t classic material. We ended up getting a copy. I enjoy the French film “Joyeux Noel”, editorially, may not agree with all but like it in general.
