Great actor, mesmerising voice.
Yep. He was always one of my favorites. May he R.I.P.
And my very favorite line of his, from all his movies was from “My Favorite Year”: Panicking, when he found out that the show was being broadcast ‘live’; no multiple takes to get it right:
“I’m not an ACTOR, I’m a movie star.”
Surprised no one mentioned Man of La Mancha.
He was a wonderful Don Quixote.
I’m not shocked to hear of his passing, but I am sad. He was my favourite actor. Loved some of his roles and his off screen/stage personality. Watched My Favourite Year in the 80’s over and over again. Have loved Lawrence of Arabia since I was a teen. That movie captivated me and that’s how I became a David Lean fan as well as Maurice Jarre, Omar Sharif and Peter O’Toole. Great actor and what a character! Thank you Peter for wonderful memories and expanding my mind. You were one of a kind.
How lucky for you!
When all the spoiled Hollywood brats were complaining at some big awards thingy about the evil America after 9/11, wasn’t it Peter O’Toole who said “America has always been very good to me.” And each time he spoke in public, didn’t he always have praise for her? Correct me if I’m mistaken, but that’s what I remember about him. May he rest in peace.

Two threads I posted about him last year...one upon hearing he was retiring and one on his birthday:
Peter O’Toole retires, says his ‘heart’ for acting is gone

Peter O’Toole said in an interview that he got this note on his dry cleaning one time. He thought it would be comical to have it has his epitaph: “It distresses us to return work which is not perfect.”
He did! His Oscar speech was very gracious and classy. I'll find link.
The truly great actors of yesteryear are leaving us at a rapid pace.
Such a huge and wonderful body of work. Lawrence of Arabia, of course, but so many more. My favorite was as the drunken washed up actor in My Favorite Year. Another was as tutor to the child emperor in The Last Emperor.
Rest in peace, Mr. O’Toole.
“Katherine of Alexandria” is his final film.

I have been in a few biking accidents, and this scene captures the feeling perfectly.
Nice!
Scene from his first film “Kidnapped” 1960
He had done a bit of TV work previous to this.
