Chinese branches of Wal-Mart have been forced to recall batches of donkey meat after it was found to contain fox.

The US company has apologized and said it would reimburse shoppers in China who bought the “Five Spice” donkey product, which tests showed contained the DNA of other animals. […]

Donkey meat is popular in China, though makes up a tiny proportion of all meat products consumed. Fox meat, on the other hand, is cheap because of its distinctive smell and the fact that eating it could pose serious health risks, a breeder told the Yangcheng Evening News. …

One night my wife, daughter and grandchildren were sitting around a campfire roasting hotdogs when they noticed sitting in the dark right next to them, staring at the fire and sizzling dogs was a Fox. Since the hotdogs were bought at Wal-Mart it now makes sense. He was visiting relatives.

Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Seems like domestically raised fox meat would be expensive, since they have to feed them meat. And wild caught fox would be expensive because it’s an inefficient method.

But possibly this is just a way to use fox meat obtained from one of the two methods from foxes raised for fur. Waste not, want not.

A foxy little piece of A**, all right.

This nugget of “news” was so fascinating, one almost believes it to be satire.

Oh, wait, this cones from Belfast, right? Just a little Irish hyperbole.

Speaking of cheese and donkeys, I wonder if anybody sells a Pule Donkey burger (Serbian donkey cheese on a ground donkey meat burger)?

And is a Chinese burrito made from the equivalent of donkey veal?

I might not want to know what parts they sell. Don’t they still eat dog in China?

I got mad when they took the dolphin out of the tuna.

I knew there was a reason it tasted better when I was a kid.

“When I get in ranch raised foxes I can see that quite a bit of meat is wasted. Is it OK for dogs to eat it cooked? I’d heard that old timers actually had recipes for fox meat. I’ll have to say it smells rather unpleasant while it is cooking, but perhaps with enough spices it would be OK. Silver fox pizza? Glacier fox casserole? Norwegian blue fox burritos? “

Lewis and Clarke’s Corps of Discovery ate tons of donkeys and horses. And after a steady diet of fish and roots on the West Coast, they relished it on the return trip.

They ate rotten buffalo left by the natives as well.

Seems that the natives didn’t respect their brother buffalo nearly as much as we pretend they did.
