Is Devin Hester a NFL Hall Of Famer?

Posted on 03/06/2014 4:36:47 PM PST by Beave Meister

Devin Hester is the greatest return man in the history of the NFL. Can he be the first return man ever elected into the NFL Hall Of Fame?

Here's a YouTube video of all 19 Touchdowns he scored in his eight years with the Chicago Bears.

Yeah, I think he is. Certainly one of the greatest returners ever.

On one hand, he’s clearly amongst, if not THE, best at his position. So, would the greatest long snapper ever therefore deserve HoF status? I say no; cuz the world’s greatest long snapper is only slightly better than an average long snapper when it comes to how much he helps his team win games. The world’s greatest returner (or those right up there) deserves HoF consideration because allowing his team to play on a 60 yard field so often is invaluable. Shame that half-wit Lovie couldn’t develop even an average offense to capitalize on the gift that fell in his lap.

Lovie Smith ruined the greatest kick returner in the history of the game. He played defensive back in college at U of Miami why would you make him a wide receiver?. There’s a reason why certain players who are extremely fast play defense. 99.9% of them have no hands. And Devin Hester bless his soul did not have great hands.

No, he is not a Hall-of-Famer. He’s a good returner. But he is not Hall of Fame material. Just my two cents.

He is a very good returner and he's had more success at it than almost all others before him.

BUT

The reason his numbers stand out so much compared to others is that he's been returning kicks for a long time. The reason for that is that most other returners do so in addition to their primary jobs and typically early in their career. The reason Hester has been returning kicks for his whole career is his high level of suckdom at other positions. If he would have had receiving talent, he would have ended up off special teams. Since he sucked at all other aspects of the game he remained a return guy long past the point where talented players move on.
