Yep, unfortunately.
You are supposed to keep your dog(s) close to you, like the trusty friend that they are, to alert/protect you from things like that python and vice versa.
Why else would you have a dog?

My husband always had two dogs. Two, so they would never be alone...and they were good buddies.

I would REALLY like to see the death penalty, WITH "cruel and unusual punishment" for people who mistreat ANY animal.

One appropriate punishment: having to listen to Ethel Merman sing "There's NO Business Like Show Business" for an hour. Worse punishment=listening to her longer.

If it had been me instead of her, then I, and my guilt, would welcome the worst you've got, thinking I deserved it.

Beyond that, I've got too much stupid in my past and future and am not qualified to judge her, though I appreciate the thought. She might be one where the guilt is more than enough. Stupid can't be fixed, they say, but wisdom most often comes with a high price.

I agree with your husband and think that, social creatures that they are, dogs need other dogs. Personally, I couldn't handle more than two. I think they each need to feel like they belong to someone and someone to them and I'm maxed out at two.
