Don’t cancel sale of Apaches to Egypt, Israel urges U.S.

Israeli officials have been lobbying Washington hard on behalf of the new Egyptian government, urging resumption of U.S. aid to Cairo.

Since the coup in 2013, during which the army headed by the present defense minister, Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, ousted President Mohammed Morsi and outlawed Morsi’s movement, the Islamic Brotherhood, American military aid to Egypt has been on ice.

Collaboration on security between Israel and Egypt has improved since Morsi’s ouster.

The senior Israeli official says that Israel’s ambassador to Washington, Ron Dermer, and other embassy diplomats talked about the matter with high-ranking American officials during the last week. Dermer also brought up the subject in meetings with leading congressmen.

According to Al-Monitor, Dermer recently met with Republicans in Congress who support Israel, and praised the new Egyptian leadership at great length.

If Israel says to not cancel the sale to Egypt, that means the O admin will make sure that sale is cancelled until the Muslim Brotherhood is installed.

You can pretty much tell what the right call is on a foreign policy decision by what this bunch of fools does - the opposite is the right decision.

Recently on live TV, Sheikh Abdul Maqsud, an Islamic jurisprudent, issued a fatwa obligating “Muslims” (in this context, Muslim Brotherhood supporters in Egypt) to engage in acts of terror against “infidels” (in this context, the Egyptian government and anyone else opposing the Brotherhood).

A large part of the Israeli diplomatic corps should be working day and night to establish discreet relations with the Egyptian army.

For example Israeli intelligence could funnel huge amounts of information about the Egyptian armies’ enemies, with no skin off Israel’s nose, as it were. They could help the Egyptian army set up backdoor logistical support, foreign bank accounts to funnel emergency money to them, etc.

They might even arrange some potential “bug out” routes, in case the situation goes haywire and they have to leave the country. Nothing builds confidence like having an escape hatch.

In the process building a lot of, if not friendship, then mutual familiarity, which at times can be worth its weight in gold.

If the Egyptian Army is using them to mow down Muslim Brotherhood terrorists, sell Egypt all they can get.

Not so strange—

Israel and Egypt are both enemies of and threatened by crazy Islamists, and

The Obama regime is stocked with Muslim Brotherhood allies and Obama is very simpatico with the Islamists.

Israel wants to keep Egypt in the Western camp. Putin is already making overtures to Cairo and he has a lot of nifty new toys he can give to the generals on very favorable terms. They kicked the Soviets out before, they can kick us out just as easily.

Israel wants its southern flank stable and secure without having to expend much in the way of security forces commited to watching Egypt. They are already having to deal with Syria and the Pallies. The Egyptians already have AH-64s and have had them for years. This is an additional aircraft buy that maintains US presence in the form of military training/assistance and US Contractor maintenance support.

This is an economy of force play by Israel. Leveraging the US to allow this buy to go through brings some expectation of relative stability to Egypt and allows Israel to commit more of its military to cover other regions.
