'Star Wars: Episode VII' Cast Announced
Yahoo Movies ^ | April 29, 2014 | Matt McDaniel

Luke. Leia. Han. Chewie. Artoo. Threepio. All present and accounted for as StarWars.com unveiled the official cast of "Star War: Episode VII" Tuesday.

Here's the full release:

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on Dec. 18, 2015.

While original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford had dropped hints that they would be reprising their roles for the new chapter, which takes place around 35 years after "Return of the Jedi," nothing was confirmed until today. The trio will be joined by longtime castmates Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca).

New additions include Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, who recently appeared together in the Coen brothers' 2013 folk music drama "Inside Llewyn Davis." Also onboard: Andy Serkis (best known as Gollum in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy), Domhnall Gleeson ("About Time",) and the legendary Max von Sydow ("The Exorcist"). Fresh faces John Boyega ("Attack the Block") and Daisy Ridley (who has appeared in just a handful of BBC dramas) round out the cast.

So she’s still working. That’s a good thing.

Sorry for the threadjack, but for parents of kids growing up way too fast, the movie About Time referenced late in the article (starring Domhnall Gleeson) is fantastic. Yes it is!

My son and I always loved the Hoth battle scene in “Empire Strikes Back”.

It was indeed a chilling scene; I imagined what it would be like facing armored giants in the snow like that.

My old man, a combat veteran of the Battle of the Bulge, faced German “armored giants” in the snows of Belgium... I’d imagine he felt much of what I did watching those fictional beasts on the movie screen, but he saw it for real.

To this day, my son (now 20) still loves that movie.

“...gastric bypass surgery, along with some plastic surgery to remove the skin layers left by the effects of the rapid weight loss...”

You could be right. That makes sense to me.

Uh...Marjoe was the GUY with the frizzy hair and outstretched palms.

When he was MUCH younger, he was a tent-meeting evangelist.

The name was in the IMDB entry, so it was the person. And you jogged my memory. It wasn't his first movie experience.

LOL. This sounds more like the cast of Cocoon than Star Wars. Star Wars lost its magic for me with the last set of movies — which was incredibly dull — and I don’t plan on seeing a bunch of senior citizens and has-beens running around shooting lasers at each other.

RE “...gastric bypass surgery, along with some plastic surgery to remove the skin layers left by the effects of the rapid weight loss...”

You could be right. That makes sense to me.”

A few years back I had a female neighbor ~ 40 who got the bypass after being obese for years and it wasn't pretty.
Flabby skin and wrinkles and hair loss.

Some of the damage was done I bet by being fat, but after eating crap (and alcohol in her case) for years the bypass puts them on an unhealthy starvation diet.
I think she didn't exercised either to build muscle, had no interest in it.

That is really stressful to the body in older years, not as much in the 20s or 30s .

Oh...one other thing: The picture in post 99...did you see who was NOT in the picture?

George Lucas.

Think about that one.

“Don’t know most of these actors, hope they don’t ruin it!”

They probably can’t do any worse than picking Hayden Christensen to play Anakin in the last one.

R2 and 3PO have managed to stick around for 3 generations without an upgrade. It’d be like still using Cray 1s today.

I second that. About Time is a fantastic movie for both adults and kids. Don’t ask about the plot, just go see it. It’s a wonderful film about family.
