"Iceland's signature alcoholic beverage is Brennivín (literally "burnt (i.e. distilled) wine"), which is similar to Scandinavian akvavit. It is a type of vodka made from distilled potatoes and flavoured with either caraway seeds or angelica. Its potency has earned it the nickname svarti dauði ("Black Death")."

One of those participating in the protests was Ragnhildur Jónsdóttir, who from an early age maintained that she had the ability to see and communicate with these mythological sprites. No stranger to the inquisitive glance of strangers...Aaaannd, it goes from there.
My favorite scene from Labyrinth:
"OW! It bit me!!"
"Of course it bit you, it's a fairy."

remains steadfast in her beliefs and is convinced that everything she says is true.... I do, too. But my old lady says “I SAW you in bed with that 20 year old chippy” I keep telling her “it wasn’t me!! It was Elsnogh Recldesipahn, the guy down the street.” Might have been. She left four months ago and I haven’t seen her since.

Found a map of the highway project. It was held up last December for "environmental" reasons, which in this case amount to sentiment to preserve an iconic lava field, as see map comparison below. I think the elves are late recruits, but very powerful ones in the area of sentiment.
I saw some "elven churches" with Google search, and they seem to be mostly rock formations, not involving lava, and I'm hard put to see a candidate for this in the Google Earth image. Nevertheless, I'm a sentimental guy, and who needs that stupid road?
