Just for laughs. :)

An elderly couple were killed in an accident and found themselves being given a tour of heaven by Saint Peter. “Here is your oceanside condo, over there are the tennis courts, swimming pool, and two golf courses. If you need any refreshments, just stop by any of the many bars located throughout the area.”

“Heck, Gloria,” the old man hissed when Saint Peter walked off, “we could have been here ten years ago if you hadn’t heard about all that stupid oat bran, wheat germ, and low-fat diets!”

Here is a simple trick to cook lentils..or any beans for that matter. Soak them in tap water for 2 or 3 days in a covered pot, change water daily if you remember.

They soften up and actually are more nutritious because they are on verge of sprouting.

To cook, I drain and add new water, dash of white wine, chopped onions, any tomato (salsa or V8 juice or fresh tomato pieces) and small amounts of garlic powder, curry powder, salt, ground cinnamon (helps control my blood sugar) and a bit of soy sauce. If kids are going to eat this, add a pinch of brown sugar. Simmer for 30 minutes, making sure some liquid is present.

Like anything else when shopping....look at your ads. We have a lot of competition here in So Cal. I thought my days of finding $2.99 a pound of thin sliced top round were
long over. But sure enough Pack and Save has it on sale this week. Time for another round of beef jerky.

Haha good one...Reminds of a a news reporter interviewing a man in his 90”s. The man was feeble but looked alert.

Asked about his secret of longevity, the old man says I did not drink or smoke, and ate only low fat foods all my life. Suddenly they hear loud noises from floor above and shaking of ceiling from some one running. Reporter asks the old man what is that noise all about.

The old man replies “I think papa must be drunk again and chasing his girl friend around the furniture”.

I would buy Fosters flash frozen chicken breasts that come in a box. It use to be 6 for about $10. It now is about $11 for 5 pieces.

What? No lentils because of potassium levels?
Does not make much sense.

Best cure for my health problems is walking at moderately fast pace for 25-30 minutes every day. Has helped me get rid of heart arrhythmia, back aches, hip joint pain, improve blood sugar levels, and better energy.

Find a Winco Food store. They have lots of different food items in bins and usually much cheaper than boxed/bottled items. My store has all types of flours, spices, grains, cereals, pet foods, dried fruits, peanuts, cashews, almonds, chocolate candy, make your own peanut butter etc.

These Winco stores are employee owned and non-union. But you have to bag your own groceries.

Bean prices are way up compared to a few years ago. Lentils are solid!!! And one of the less expensive beans. I ate some last week.

lentils are Biblical -— are the “mess of pottage”

“Those prices are insane but the rest of us might be catching up..”

Hope you don’t. Same store had a top round roast that I could wrap my hands around (maybe 3 1/2 lbs.) for $26.00.

Looks like we’ll be eating more venison than beef this coming winter. Will be enlarging our veggie garden this summer and cutting corners wherever we can.

We’re going to be in Dallas this fall and I’ll at least drive by and take a look at what they have. In the meantime, a five hour drive to buy groceries is just a bit much. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe they’ll come on south eventually.

“Blame those purists who stayed home on election day 2012 thinking Obama would be no worse than Romney.”

No, blame the people who voted for Obama.

And I blame YOU and your kind for the GOP putting up crap candidates like Romney because they know you will vote for whatever assclown they run.

I am not voting for a socialist regardless of what letter is behind his name.

Open your eyes and us that brain God gave you.

Tea Party backed candidate won in NC against GOPe.
Hundreds of GOPe backed candidates have lost nationwide
in last decade. Sasse win proves it IS PEOPLE WHO VOTE
pick the nominee. It is people like you abstain because
the nominee is not “pure” to your liking causes losing
elections.

As for Romney, if conservatives displayed unity, he would
never have won. He never crossed 30% until his nomination
became obvious. If either Santorum or Gingrich drops out
after SC primary, Romney was toast.

That was my first thought. And the amount of water that corn uses is WAY more than other crops. Especially stupid in places like California in drought conditions.

I have been buying from Walmart on line. Then I can compare their prices to the local grocery stores and make selections. The boxes are delivered right to the door for free. Green beans have been hard to buy lately. They keep running out. Also, asparagus cans are too soft to ship well.

I shop at Winco stores in the Sacramento area and they are great. A limited range of brands but a full range of items and the prices are good. The Sacramento area stores have excellent produce and indeed a wide range of bulk items in bins; don’t know if these are regional or nationwide features. Yes, you have to bag your own groceries but the way they have it set up gives us amateur baggers adequate time to do it. Worth a try if you have one reasonably nearby.

“I have been buying from Walmart on line”. “The boxes are delivered right to the door for free”.

Sounds like a good idea. I try to do all my grocery shopping in a one day per week trip around the metroplex to conserve gas. I try to buy everything I need so that I will avoid unnecessary trips later for a few items. It costs me about 4 -8 bucks in gas and several hours to make the rounds to about 3 - 5 stores to buy the specials and lowest priced items. I’m retired and on a fixed income so I’m thinking I may soon have to schedule my shopping trip every two weeks.

“Green beans have been hard to buy lately”.

I garden and can some of my produce. I have about a two year supply of green beans and tomatoes from prior years.
