BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A young hospital patient is tased by Baltimore City Police, then falls into a coma and dies. The department launches an investigation into the officers’ actions at Good Samaritan Hospital.

The death of a 19-year-old hospital patient this week is the focal point of a Baltimore City Police investigation after they say one of their officers tased the teen who was in a violent altercation with Good Samaritan Hospital security earlier this month.

WTF is going on with the police and using tasers? In the past year or two, I’ve seen article after article about them tasing everyone — the elderly, 10 year olds, teens, people who aren’t being obviously violent. It seems like they know they get a free pass on “tasing” people because its not like shooting them with a gun. Its a bad sign.

Place your bets: will Nursing homes or hospices be next?

Wondering if these out-of-control cops are mostly younger men who grew up zapping and shooting people on video games.

The teen was in a ‘violent altercation’. I would tase him also.

It is (probably) too bad he died but it happens. Based on this report - police did nothing wrong here.

Tough to say. On one hand, I realize that a large share of tasing deaths are due to someone's reaction is off the charts-- frail condition, drug induced illness, etc.

On the other, I've got to wonder about why LEOs are so quick to reach for the taser compared to how they would've dealt with it 20 years or so ago.

Is it because the ranks are being filled with the physically weak, proper gender ratios and other political correct clap-trap? A general deterioration in the training quality? All of the foregoing?

Nursing homes.

They're full of useless eaters.

My cousin was not on drugs, ‘frail’ or anything else except scared.

The cops stopped him because his truck looked like a truck that was supposed to have been involved in a burglary and he panicked.

He ran into a cornfield and they followed him, tasing him repeatedly until he stopped.

Unfortunately, he stopped by dropping dead.

An ‘internal investigation’ was conducted and the horde of cops all had the same story.

“He came right at them”.

Witness testimony to the contrary was disregarded.

My cousin was nothing if not a non-violent wuss.

But he’s still dead.

Left behind a young daughter that my aunt had to raise.

“The teen was in a ‘violent altercation’. I would tase him also.”

Not. I used to work in EMS many years ago. Violent people are fairly common. One big guy with a knee to the chest, two or three others on the arms and legs. Then you hogtie them to a guerney with soft restraints. And wheel them into a nice, quiet room to scream for awhile. They eventually calm down.

Because doing a beat down with a nightstick looks really bad on video. Do away with video cameras and wood shampoos would make a comeback.

“Based on this report - police did nothing wrong here.”

...Except kill the kid.

Even though their own lives were not in danger — which used to be the standard in this country for cops to use deadly force.

I’m just glad those five heroes made it to the end of their shift.

Sorry about your cousin. All this over a burglary? In many jurisdictions LEOs are too busy to even investigate burglaries unless the loss claim is significant.

They had the truck license and registration. I suspect that too many trips to the donught shop rendered them unable to do a normal pursuit on foot.

There are various reasons why they reach for the taser. I suspect laziness and PC compete for the #1 spot.

How many neutral witnesses were out there in that corn field. And what was he guilty of that he panicked?

“When they arrived, there was at least five security guards who were engaged in a physical altercation with this 19-year-old attempting to restrain him,”

If 5 people couldn't effectively restrain this man (19 is a fully grown man & it doesn't state his height/weight) then odds are pretty good that he could seriously injure someone. Assuming the facts here are accurate & some contradictory details haven't be left out, tasing was a valid course of action. I don't think people realize how dangerous this situation may have been. I'd tase someone before I'd let him smash all the bones in my face.

I'll be the first in line to bash (figuratively) the cops, but it doesn't appear warranted here.

I was not really that close with him but it devastated his mom and made his dad a lunatic.

Nice of you to assume that someone who has multiple people pointing guns at him and screaming mutually contradictory orders must be guilty of something to panic.

The people who live in the house on that curve and the cousin’s wife sitting in the truck watched it all happen.

He was “guilty” only of cowardice.

Did I mention he was sort of like “Lenny” in Of Mice And Men?

Big, slow and not terribly bright.

He was crying and freaking out that he was ‘going to jail’.

Pure, blind panic.

No guilt whatsoever.

You don’t know the local city cops.

They are as bad as bad gets.
