Have you ever seen a miracle?

Posted on 06/14/2014 9:23:22 PM PDT by MNDude

I believe in miracles (as in the Biblical sense), but I don't think I can say I've actually ever witnessed one. I'm curious if anyone here feels they've ever seen a real one before. If so, what is your miracle story?

There have been times where I thought every day was a miracle.

Yes. I am a seven year survivor from a very serious cancer diagnosis. My wife too is a survivor. No mystery here about miracles. They happen every day, we just have to open our eyes to them.

Very, very frequently, I’m talking about the kind of sudden levitation of an inanimate object, or the sudden healing of a mystery illness, or (my favorite) the instant where everything around you stops: even the birds are frozen in mid-flight — only to see and hear one car on the road whose passenger called out: “come and join us” before they left and time returned to normal.

A few weeks ago I was driving through an intersection near my home. A speeding car ran through the red light coming from my left at a speed that had to be fast enough to be lethal (I’m guessing he was going well over 80 mph, but for all I know it could have been going well over 100). Regardless, this car was traveling so fast that there is no way that I could have seen him coming, there was another driver to my right also going with the green light who would have had even less of a chance to see the oncoming car.

Somehow both my vehicle and the vehicle to my right ended up stopped in the intersection about three inches short of where the car that ran the red light passed through. I have no earthly idea of how, but my car ended up stopped in the middle of an intersection, as it’s generally not something I would try to do when I have a green light. I do recall thinking, “wait, why am I stopped?” just a fraction of a second before I finally saw this car hurtling toward me.

I do know that if my vehicle had continued at the pace I intended to drive, the speeding car would have collided with my driver’s side door. The only thing I can figure is that is that this incident with a miracle because I’m certain that if that vehicle hit me I would be dead and my two year old son who was in the back seat (on the passenger’s side) would have at the very least been seriously injured, if not killed as well.

As I collected myself, and thought about getting the car moving again, I hesitated for a second because I was certain there would be one or more police cars in pursuit, astoundingly, there weren’t.

They do happen every day. We can see them and they are wonderful. Check that old moon tonight. Very bright at about 40 degrees up. Lights off and the house has a bright glow.

Don’t know that it was a miracle, but it was a testament to the power of prayer. My oldest aunt, last surviving of my father’s siblings, had outlived her retirement savings in 2008, could not afford the heating oil bill and was very worried, which was uncharacteristic of her. She’s always been a gentle, optimistic presence, a sort of second grandmother to us all, she was the first daughter and considerably older. We prayed for her, that her worries be eased and that a solution for her problem be found. Within days, elders from the Moravian Church behind her house turned up on her doorstep with an offer to purchase the house. She accepted and went into a very nice assisted living facility, where she has been treated well. It’s more like a hotel than anything else. I wouldn’t mind such a place myself, if that day comes for me. She’ll be 100 her next birthday.

The night before my husband’s brain surgery we decided to celebrate by going to out dinner. The sky was the limit for our family. Our sons were allowed to order lobster. On our way to finding a restaurant, we stopped at a chain drug store to get my prescription refilled prior to my husband’s surgery.

Since we were over 200 miles from home we weren’t sure of the various restaurant options in the area. As we were waiting for the prescription I noticed to two local police officers had come into the store. I approached them to inquire about a good restaurant. One of the officers asked me why we were in LA. I thought that it was a strange question considering that it was the height of vacation time. When I explained that my husband was having surgery. He (the police officer) then named the hospital (we were 25-30 miles from the hospital) as a question. Shocked I said yes. He then named the doctor as a question. I was more shocked and said yes. He then named my husband’s condition. I almost fainted at that point (but I was too busy looking for angel wings ). He had the same condition and the same doctor was going to do his surgery in a few weeks. What are the chances that he and I would meet in the heart of LA with how many people and he could guess the hospital, the doctor and the procedure?

He then informed me that this doctor was the best in the world. Talk about a message from God. BTW the restaurant that he recommended was excellent.

One of the former leaders in our church was once an atheist. He had been riddled with cancer and was in a wheelchair ready to die - he only had a couple of weeks left. His wife took him along to church and he was prayed over. Three weeks later he was up playing football with his boys. He eventually died in his eighties - some 30 years later - after leading many to Christ.

In 1970, my mother, age 56, was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer. When I met her surgeon, just before surgery, I told him she had had a lot of prayer and we didn't think it would be as bad as he thought.

He patted me on the shoulder, looked at me pityingly, and told me it was a large tumor and she would have to have a colostomy--it would be an 8 hr. surgery.

Members of her church came and sat with me during surgery. They had a prayer line and someone had signed to pray for her every hr for the 24 (or 48?) hrs before surgery. I was from out of state, so they told me all this. They said don't worry, God would take care of it.

After a scant 4 hrs. the dr. came out with a funny expression. He told me the tumor was not more than half the size it showed on x-ray. It was primary and he got it all--no colostomy. He just couldn't understand it, but her friends said "Praise the Lord".

My mother never had chemo or radiation, just regular checks. She lived to be 93 and never had another sign of cancer.

PRAISE THE LORD!

The moon is the perfect size and the perfect distance from earth to create tides that are not so large as to disrupt life, but enough to cleanse near shore environments and all of the tidal life.

Life that may not even be around if no moon. The moon acts as a stabilizer on how we rotate around the poles. Otherwise the earth would have huge shifts on how we rotate. Vertical rotation and we would have no changes in seasons. Horizontal rotation and seasons would change every day.

Oh - and our days would just be 6 hours long.

And I think God put the moon at the perfect size and distance so we could experience the joy and wonder of a total eclipse of the sun just for fun. (Yes - the sun also has to be at the perfect size and distance too.)

I have one similar - I was only a teenager and was driving my way to work - I confess I was speeding. I saw a car up on the right hand side at an intersection he half pulled out then I though he saw me so he stopped then as I got closer he just pulled out in front of me. It’s all a bit of a blur - I locked up the brakes and remember clearly hearing a voice inside my head that said “Turn the Wheel” I did so even though I remember feeling like I was not gunna hit the car. With the wheels locked up in an old car you wouldn’t have thought the car would have steered well but it did - I came to a stop - half my car on the other side of the road (no cars on the other side) and my car was in a position that would have been over half way through his car had I not steered away. I just gave him a wave and drove off to work but the minute i stepped out of the car my legs buckled from under me - I could have killed the man and only by the grace of God I did not. Have been a much more reasonable driver since!

Everytime I am at the beach I look at that big ball in the sky and am amazed at the washing machine at my feet.

It works. Who am I to question this miracle of life?

This is true. For years, I’ve looked back on my life & the lives of those near me & I’m filled with wonder & gratefulness at the intricate ways things unfold. As Yogi (Berra) said, Some things are too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence.

I have close, personal knowledge of several miracles. In 2008, Gypsy was diagnosed with epithelial mesothelioma; 2 different biopsies, a private lab (Antech) & Texas A&M. I immediately contacted everyone I knew, asking for prayers. Our good vet at VREC here was on vacation & couldn’t even see her for a month. We didn’t have “months”, according to her diagnosis. She’d had 2 tumors. One was very large & one was small. By the time the vet saw her, the small one had regressed away. When he removed the second, almost 6 weeks later, & the entire mass was sent to the lab, it was benign plasma cytoma. Gypsy was with us another 5 1/2 years.

Here is the “odd” thing. I learned what “happiness” really was during that time & it was pretty surreal because I was so happy. I realized it was because I was grateful. Today (that day), we had so much. Gyps wasn’t sick. She was in danger. She looked & acted perfectly healthy. But all of our Blessings, big & small, came so clearly into focus. It really was an epiphany.
The truest, most precious words in the world are “Be still and know that I AM”.
He Is and He Will. As far as I’m concerned, this is the only thing in this life that you CAN count on.

Years ago, I was a volunteer firefighter in a county North of Atlanta. Very early one morning I was awoken by my pager for some sort of emergency call. My route to the location of the emergency took me down this road that has a huge hill. It is very easy to build up a lot of speed going down this hill. As I neared the bottom of the hill, a thought popped into my head “Better slow down, a deer could run across the road here and you would not be able to stop”. NO sooner than I slowed down, did a deer sprint right in front of my car. Had I not slowed down at that exact moment, I would have hit it for sure. At the speed I was going it would have been a very serious accident.

Now a skeptic might dismiss it and say that my subconscious mind observed the deer and planted that thought before my conscious mind could process the information. But I choose to believe the message came from elsewhere.

I am Buddhist. The unfolding of karma often gives rise to appearances of miraculous synchronicity. This has happened so many times in my life that it occurs to me that it is all a miracle, one constant, ongoing miracle, if one must use that word.

I witnessed one, recently in fact. A friend and fellow freeper had complications after brain surgery and had massive swelling the brain and stroke like symptoms. Even her doctor says she should have died. Within a matter of days, she was completely healed, cleared to drive and recovered. God is a God of miracles.

Well, something happened that I can’t explain by physics, when I was sitting on my motorcycle waiting for oncoming traffic to clear so I could make a left turn — and a van rammed into the rear of the bike.

Now, that bike should have been knocked out from under me with me tumbling backwards into the van’s windshield. That didn’t happen. Something kept me on the seat until the van (which by then had the motorcycle’s rear wheel impaled in its radiator) had gone through the intersection. Then as the van stopped, I flew over the handlebars, banging my knee on the air cleaner. Got some bruises, and messed up my elbow joint a little. But I still do not know what kept me on the bike.
